We headed to this place with high expectations considering they have an attached butcher shop and all the great reviews here on Google and on Lancaster Facebook pages. We were going to a show at the North Museum of Science and Nature and decided this place was close by and would be a great try for the first time on a Friday evening.
Aside for the high expectations of the menu and reviews we headed here much earlier than we wanted to to because of the reviews from others saying that the service was slow for them. We learned that it must depend on what time you go because we were ready to wait an hour for food because that's what other customers said in their review. The place has enough tables to accommodate dozens of people, but the reviews say the food takes an hour to be prepared. We gave ourselves 2 hours just to make sure we would get to our show on time. We walked up to the bar area first. Decided to order our drinks first. The cashier there was really friendly. I enjoyed a really great fruity cider as I don't really drink beer much. My husband got a fountain soda. Then, we made our way to where you order food. There was no line there either. The cashier was nice. She took our order. I thought it would be a great idea for us to check out their menu online ahead of time. Great idea because they only have QR codes to scan with your phone to see a menu anyways. We already knew what we wanted to make it easy. I decided on the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It was served with my choice of salad, chips or upgrade to fries. We were getting Poutine and Onion Rings anyway. I decided on the salad. My food was really good. A little small for the price, but delicious and tasty. Now for my husband's review of the burger special they were running. Not sure if you like thin Happy Meal Size Burgers or not, but...... This is how it goes. My husband decided on their special of the week. He was excited about it because it had bacon and sounded really good. The cashier even asked him if he wanted it pink or no pink. He said, "Definitely Pink". Thanks for asking, but all you get is a little hockey puck happy meal size burger that was actually dried out for $16. Sorry, not sorry. He didn't take it back up there to ask them to try again as the place was starting to fill up with more people and since I was enjoying my Pulled Pork Sandwich, he didn't really want to make a big scene. This is a burger place, get it right the first time kind of attitude. The Poutine was delicious. The Onion Rings on the other hand, beer batter was almost like a sponge that held on to the oil. Anyway, we got there a little after 5 PM on a Friday. We got our drinks first, headed over to order our food. Talked to the butcher for a few minutes and then went to sit down with our buzzer. We received our food within 15 minutes, ate, and arrived for our 7:30 show right around the corner by 6PM. There was plenty of time to waste. Had we known this place was going to have our food ready in 15 min, we wouldn't have gone so early. But, then again, if we went later, would we have waited longer for our food? Overall, the place has as great menu full of high expectations, but the burger should have been a bigger juicy pink burger for the price, not a small hockey puck dried out Happy...
Read moreI don’t even know where to begin… 🤯 this place is one of the best places to get burgers and ESPECIALLY sandwiches. I know everyone loves the burgers, and yes they are great (tbh I haven’t had any except the classic in a few months so my memories may be lacking a bit) but either way the sandwiches are so underrated. Maybe they’re not actually underrated but in my head I never really thought to try a sandwich until recently, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been here so many times and finally tried the crispy chicken and pulled pork sandwiches. Let me just say.. CFA has nothing on Cabalar’s crispy chicken sandwich. The sauce - AMAZING. I think it has dill in it?, and also they put like 7 pickles on it, I didn’t even have to ask, and it was the most perfect combination. Literally perfect. And the pulled pork sandwich, omg. This was after I already ate the chicken sandwich so I wasn’t even hungry anymore but I still ate a couple bites of the pulled pork sandwich just for the sheer pleasure of it (I saved the rest of it for the next day and somehow even ion it’s state of leftover-ness, it was still a 10/10) Again, the SAUCE. It’s like this jalapeño cole slaw, nothing crazy with the spiciness if you’re worried about that, and just all of it together is to DIEEE for. And to speak for the burgers, my sister got the steakhouse burger (which I’ve gotten in the past awhile ago, just didn’t like the blue cheese) and she also loved it. She ordered it without the cheese. Anyway. This place is great. The staff are also friendly. The inside of the restaurant is nice and tidy, and they sell fun, local beverages. I will be back...

Let’s talk about the star of the show: the patty melt. From the moment it arrives at your table, you can tell you’re in for something special. The perfectly grilled, juicy patty is nestled between two slices of buttery, toasted bread, oozing with melted cooper cheese, and Cajun mayo that creates a symphony of flavors in every bite. The sautéed onions add a delightful sweetness that complements the richness of the beef, making it a melt-in-your-mouth experience that is simply unforgettable.
Now, the cherry on top of this gastronomic delight is the chocolate Wilbur’s milkshake. This isn’t just any milkshake; it’s a decadent blend of creamy goodness that feels like a hug in a cup. It's the kind of milkshake that will have you savoring every sip, wishing you could take it home with you!
