This is my first experience with the Fulton theater in Lancaster pennsylvania. They told us that they were among the oldest currently active theaters in the United States. The lobby area with spacious enough to move about and drink prices both non-alcoholic and alcoholic as well as snacks or more than reasonably priced you can even order your drinks for intermission before the show began which is really really awesome!
Without looking at capacity it appeared that the seating area for the actual theater was maybe 500 people or so so every seat was definitely a good seat to see any show. There is no Orchestra pit though the musicians are somewhere behind stage and show you big screen TVs of the conductor doing his
Me and my daughter went to see the final show of the Broadway production of Cats... well the show changed some of its staging and themes, the entire production of music and poetry was still intact. I had managed to get front row seats right on the edge of the row which was even more significantly awesome!
The performers were able to run in and out of the stage freely both up and down the aisles and crawling right across the floor in front of us. Among the characters that really impressed my daughter and myself was Rum Tum Tigger who actually rubs up against my daughter's arm at the beginning of the show and Gus the Theater Cat who was making comments and questioning both me and my daughter about things that we appear to be with the cat-like flare of language which we both thought was incredibly personable! The entire production was much more immersive than anything I've ever really seen before and it felt like you were part of the stage many times over. This is a credit to the Fulton theater's intimate space that allows the audience to become part of the show as often as the show can dictate!
The biggest surprise was that the price of the tickets for my seat or easily half if not more than half the price of the conventional shows that appear in Broadway or Philadelphia or Big City theaters. Because of the much smaller venue everybody was much more friendly when you had something that you needed from the staff.
I would strongly and without hesitation recommended urge anyone who is looking for a Broadway production to consider this theater for everything that you want in a show to produce. I would imagine the same would be for concerts and other performances that the Fulton theater would provide in its scheduling!
I will be looking for the Fulton theaters performance schedules when it opens up its next season as the performance that we saw was the end of the season for the Fulton theater. If you are able to consider contributing to the theater cuz they did say that ticket sales only account for slightly more than half of its operating expenses it would be worth it. At the very least consider purchasing tickets for shows concerts and other attractions that the theater will be bringing on next and...
Read moreI was honestly so excited to go see Anastasia. I had been talking about coming to see it as soon as it was announced that they'd be putting on the product. The time window to see the show is relatively short especially when you are a parent of a little one, so tonight May 7th was the only night that worked for my mother, myself, and my daughter who is under the age of 2 could go to. I started off the night thinking; this wonderful an early Mother's Day present for my mother and I. We'd all get to enjoy the show together as a family. Unfortunately, that was not the case. First off we had to actually purchase a ticket for my under 2 year old daughter. Then we didn't even make it through all of the first act before a lady who was literally two rows in front of us and I saw, walk up and complain right in front of me about my daughter who was making a bit of noise. Mind you the ushers this evening were in the row right behind us because the show was not sold out. So if anything if my kiddo was truly behaving that poorly I fully expected them to say something to me first. After that, the usher sat down next to us and said what we already knew which was that someone had complained. What we weren't expecting to hear is that we could move to the lobby to watch the rest of the show on the TV screen they have out there. We weren't even offered other seats. Just straight-up told to go watch in the lobby on a screen. The consensus we got from another employee out in the lobby was that they expect that kind of behavior for a children's showing, but they have to be more mindful of the other patrons during the evening shows. My response was well then why don't y'all not sell children's tickets for evening shows. Have an age limit for evening shows if your main solution is to send one parent or grandparent or whole family out to the lobby with the kiddo(s). Honestly extremely upset with how everything was handled tonight. Getting told to watch a show that we had paid for and I was honestly so excited from a TV screen in the lobby was not how I wanted the evening to go. Didn't even bother staying for the rest of the show because of how upset I was. We'll never be attending a show at The Fulton...
Read moreBeverages we were served smelled like SUPER GLUE.
The actresses and actors, orchestra, and production were superb and their effort was apparent and very much appreciated. The issue is that the cups that the alcoholic beverages were served in reaked of a plastic, chemical, super glue smell so bad it was as if they came straight from the chemical manufacturing plant they originated from. The bartenders were kind and professional enough to wash the cups of our first order thoroughly and they were tipped commensuratly throughout the evening. Not their fault of course. Even still, the repulsive toxic chemical smell was so intense that my wife and I had to fan our face and stuff the toxic receptical under our seats midshos, ultimately distracting from the performance. We've literally, and I mean literally never been afended by the odor of a drink like this at any venue. It's almost as if the labels were super glued on to the cheap plastic sippy cups this afternoon, before the show. I imagine that due to budget constraints that it was a financial decision made by some uninvested individual at some point to order or make the cheapest beverage containers which unfortunately is only typical for Lancaster. The sell is the show, the shortcut to profit is the slash to the quality of the food and beverage. A complaint I hear and experience more than one should.
Bottom line, when paying $10+ for an underpoured glass of cheap wine, it should atleast not smell like toxic waste.
Side note: Why in the USA do we have to be served plastic sippy cups? Are we the toddlers of the world? Takes away from the elegance of the experience if you ask me. Also, not environmentally friendly. What say you cop26? How about serve them in real or semi real glasses and have the attendees keep them in the designated 21+ area. Not a novel idea I imagine just one for no obvious...
