I truly wanted this to be my local go-to spot. I gave it a chance with every intention of supporting a small business in my community. But after witnessing some deeply inappropriate and offensive behavior from the owner, I can no longer in good conscience continue to support this establishment.
The owner of Musser, Pat, initially seemed like an okay guy. However, that impression quickly changed when I began to notice troubling behavior. On one occasion, I watched and heard him making racially charged jokes. I come from a time when people didn’t take offense easily, and even then, I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt—after all, he didn’t know me and I didn’t know him.
But things escalated. I was present as in right there when a UPS driver—an African American man—walked in, and Pat referred to him as “his chocolate UPS driver.” That comment made me pause. Still, I tried to brush it off, thinking maybe I caught it out of context.
However, another visit left no room for interpretation. An African American inspector walked in, and without hesitation, Pat called him “Jamaal.” The man immediately corrected him, saying, “Hey man, that’s not my name—my name is Keith. Call me by my name.” The assumption, the stereotype, and the casualness of that moment were disturbing.
Why is the owner of a local bar so comfortable addressing African Americans with whatever name or label he sees fit? It’s not only disrespectful, it's unacceptable. I work hard. I spend my money to enjoy good food, cold beer, and quality time withmy friends. I choose to support businesses that reflect those values—and this is not one of them!
I will never return to this establishment. What’s most troubling is that this behavior appears to be ongoing and unaddressed! Lancaster has too many incredible spots that deserve our time, support, and dollars. This is not...
Read more2025 update: there isn't a zero stars, else I would. If the rumors are true that "the owner" owns this place, then everything that happens recently makes sense. They're killing the corner one person and one loyal customer at a time. This was the corner spot on the east side. It was a place for community and fun and laughs. It was an early lunch or a late drink. Shirk and the crew kept this place real. Now that "the owner" has forced out the real community leaders, this place is dead. I will not go back and I will turn all of my friends away from this place. Lancaster is a COMMUNITY focused city. We stand with our people, so if you're gonna kill the vibes and (heaven forfend) turn this place into a wine bar, then just give up. We don't want it. We wanted The Corner as it was. We walked by the other night and someone in management stepped out from the kitchen door and said "hey, have a good night! Are you coming out of the corner?" We said absolutely not - we won't go anymore now that the real heart of it has been kicked out. He was stunned to hear our take, but understood our stance. Maybe enough bad reviews and Reddit posts will actually convince "the owner" to take his money elsewhere.
2024: So thankful to have this Corner spot open again! Everything is great here. Fantastically...
Read moreIn Lancaster for work and like to grab a burger at least once a week. I have seen good reviews for the smashburger. Yum! sounds great. Let me call and order. No, wait no call in orders. Selected the option for the bar phone, so I can ask question about the menu. No answer there. Ok, let's just stop by and order on the way home after a 35-minute drive. Went in the bar, no servers or bartender visible. Made my way to the kitchen and heard a discussion about something other than cooking food or serving guest. Gentleman stepped out of the back and I said hi, walked right past me right to the bar and just stood there. Another gentleman was at the kitchen entrance and he didn't seem interested in acknowledging me either. Don't understand why they even offer food. Now, I'm waiting for my at another location. The Grille. Would have loved to spend my perdium on their food,...
