I'll take things I never thought I'd say in my lifetime for 600, Alex. The answer is: the Arts Pub Pizza is known for this. What is piling way, way too much cheese onto their Pizza? That is correct!
Art's Pub is a tough one to review, I can't quite decide how to rate it. My experience there was mostly positive. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and punctual. The pizza we ordered came out in a timely manner. The server was very nice and she was able to Cobble together a half & half pie for me and my vegetarian wife.
The atmosphere is pretty standard for a bar and grill. Loud music, loud people, random Keno tickets on the tables.
The primary issue was the unbelievably excessive amount of cheese on the pizza. I ate a slice and 3/4 and went home sick to my stomach. So did my wife. Don't even look at this place's pizzas if you are lactose intolerant, you will probably burst into flame on the spot. I think I will probably go back, but I am definitely going to ask for half cheese. By which I mean lighten up on the cheese, not cheese on one half but not the other. To be brutally honest, they should change their recipe in my opinion. It's not fit for human consumption without modifying.
Our server told us that they put 18 oz of cheese on a large pizza. That amounts to two and a quarter cups. A large pizza from your average Pizza Joint puts about a cup, maybe a cup and a quarter on a large pizza. In most cases, a cup and a quarter is extra cheese. A cup and a half if you're lucky. I told her I was morbidly curious to see what a pizza with extra cheese looks like, and she told me the kitchen won't do it. I said that makes sense! Any more cheese on those pies and they wouldn't bake. The dough would come out Raw. Speaking of which, I would definitely not stray from their standard recipes if you really want this much cheese. If you ask for too many toppings in too much cheese, they're going to bring you a pie with some raw dough on the bottom. Hopefully they'll warn you an urge you to change your order but they might not.
I can't really speak on the beer because I don't drink anymore. But their 32 oz glasses of domestic draft should please the beer drinkers. They also have pints of craft beers.
There was also an issue with our bill. The server gave us the bill for another table. It actually really didn't matter, we had almost the exact same total. But just be careful, that's not a mistake that you would want to repeat.
So overall, worth another look. I may modify this review after my next visit. Depending on...
Read moreAs much as I want to like this place since it is close to my apartment and seems to have good deals, my last experience here on Jun 24, 2018 prevents me from giving anything other than a single star.
I ordered the Cabo Hash ("chorizo, redskin potato, sweet potato, pickled red onion, queso fresco & cheddar and sunnyside up eggs topped with pico de gallo & lime crema"). My fiancee ordered the Marley Nachos ("smoked chicken, jerk sauce, pineapple, pepper jack & cheddar cheese, habanero relish, cilantro & romaine").
To begin, our food took over 40 minutes to come out of the kitchen. At first, only the nachos were delivered. They had evidently been sitting under the heat lamp too long since the cheese was no longer melty. What cheese there was was only cheddar. No pepper jack as described. There was also an absence of any cilantro.
My hash, when it eventually came out, was a total mess. There was no chorizo, no queso, no pico, and no lime crema. It was essentially a bowl of potatoes topped by a single egg. Usually when a dish is described as having "sunnyside up eggs", I expect there would be more than a single egg. We saw other Hash Bash orders go by our table with two eggs on top. Taking all this into account, what I received was nothing at all like what I ordered.
Between the long wait for the food and the food being very poorly prepared, I cannot recommend this place at all. I very much like the idea and location of this establishment, bringing additional brunch options to the area, but it only provided disappointment.
One small ray of sunshine was that our waitress was pleasant and understanding. We had our food comped, I paid for our drinks, and we left. Having been there for over an hour already, we just left and went to grab lunch at the Peanut Barrel, where the service was attentive and the food was prompt and to order (the bare minimum standards for a restaurant, though still too...
Read moreWent on Saturday to watch the MSU women's basketball team play in the NCAA tournament. I assumed a sports bar 3 miles from the Breslin Center would already have it up on most of the TVs (they have over a dozen). None were on the right channel, so before ordering drinks I asked a server, she said it would go up before the games started. Game starts, not on any TVs, so I ask again. I hear a supervisor saying "MSU doesn't play today," acting like we were dumb. We had to yell to her and say it was the women's team. She told us they would put it on if we sat on the other side of the table because the mens team for U of M was starting in FORTY FIVE MINUTES. We were so offended by the disrespect for our womens basketball team that we just went home, and they charged us for the drinks we bought with the understanding the game would be up before tip off.
If it were the mens team, the staff would have known there was a game, we would not have had to ask, we would not have had to ask a second time, and we definitely would not have been asked to move so as to save the TVs we were facing for U of M.
I've been going here for years, so I wanted to give them a chance to make it right. I filled out a contact form on the website and asked for an owner/manager to call me. Never heard a thing.
In sum, they don't respect women's sports, and they also don't respect their regulars. The food and vibes can be really fun, but that sort of disrespect is the opposite of what I want from a neighborhood pub. I won't be going back and will make sure our friends...
