First... realize that I spend about $3,000 a month eating out so, when I write a review the place has to knock my socks off because I just don't have enough time to review every place I eat due to my work schedule.
That said, no matter where I am in the country I always find the Cuban restaurants because I love Cuban food, the culture, and the people. I know I was Cuban in a previous life.
Now, down to the details...
Yes, José and Courtney are amazing people and their staff is super nice and professional but it goes way beyond that. The Media Noche is one of, if not the best Cuban sandwich in the entire country. It's just that F'n good. It is so good, I may find myself in Detroit on a Saturday morning and just wake up needing a José's Media Noche and I will make the hour and a half drive to spend some time with these amazing people and enjoy one of the best sandwiches I have ever tried.
Regarding the location, yes, it is a gas station but don't be fooled or so ignorant to think that good food can't be found in a gas station or a hole in the wall kind of setting. If you have ever been to New York, Newark, or LA you know exactly what I am talking about. If not, stop being so ignorant and judge mental.
If you like Cuban food or just want to try an amazing sandwich, you need to visit this place. You will be amazed. The entire menu is delicious. Don't miss out on it.
Finally, I need to call out Geoffry Mowry on his review. I hate to be so blunt but I don't think you would know a good sandwich if it slapped you in the face. There is nothing wrong with the gas station nor the restaurant inside and after eating there at least 20 times I have never experienced anything remotely as...
Read moreDo not order delivery! I placed an order at 7pm on a Thursday and my food arrived at 9:15pm and was cold. I have ordered joses many times but this was a pretty bad experience. I called after an hour, and then after an hour and a half, and then I called a third time after two hours of waiting for the delivery to arrive. Each time a nice lady answered and apologized profusely and then she would say that the driver was close but that she would throw in free cookies for us. The cookies were okay but I would rather have hot food delivered in under an hour. I finally called to cancel the order because I had to leave my house. As I am pulling out of the driveway the driver pulls up behind my car. He asks if we still want the food. I am starving at this point so I say yes and take the food.
When my wife and I began eating we were disappointed again. All of the food was cold and soggy and one of the sandwiches had a hint of floor cleaner on it. I am not sure what was going on tonight but it was not good. I am reluctant to try their food again after this experience. If delivery is difficult, then don't offer delivery. If an order is that screwed up, as a business, you should do more than give me two free cookies to make things right. I was charged for the order after this whole ordeal and I definitely did not get my...
Read moreHard to know what to think exactly. Jose's is located inside a fairly dumpy marathon gas station. There are two small tables with total seating for 4 customers. No public bathroom. Jose is an extremely nice man and service is great. I got a media noche which is something like what I think of as a traditional Cuban sandwhich. I also had beans and rice. I took it home to eat. I thought the sandwhich had a nice flavor and the black beans were also flavorful. But in both there was a hint of a flavor, almost musty, that made me think of a dumpy gas station. So I was unable to finish it. In all fairness it may just have been normal and appropriate Cuban spicing, maybe just cumin, but I can be a little skittish with food at times. And once I start thinking something tastes like a gas station it's hard to get it out of my head. Also I'm not a die hard Cuban fan. I think it sounds good maybe twice a year. So I'll probably try it again in 6 months and try to keep...
