I've been coming to rustic for years, and as a family we LOVE everything about it. The food, the ambiance, the service - until today. I called to place an order to pick up, and the woman on the phone was in an awful mood. I asked if there were any pastries left (as things have been disappearing quickly) and she listed them to me. She was very unclear with what was there, and once I asked her to put x and y pastries aside, she said they were out. There was a huge miscommunication. I asked her then about the sandwiches which she listed, and she made it seem as though there was one left which I later found out there were 3 different kinds. After multiple miscommunications and lots of unclarity, I was done ordering, and she asked me to pay over the phone. At this point, I thought I was ordering 3 sandwiches (that's it). She did not tell me the total of the order. She asked for my card information which I gave, assuming she would tell me after, yet she did not. Instead, as soon as I finished giving her my card information, she hung up on me. I picked up the order, unsure of what I was getting, and once I got home and got the chance to see what was in the bag, I realized there were 3 sandwiches and 3 croissants which I have no idea where they came from. The total was $30.90. I don't mind paying for what I order of course, but I ended up paying for 3 items I did not order. On top of this, last week, I went to order 2 coffees on Mother's Day. One for me and one for my mom. The woman who placed my order for me was the same woman I dealt with today. On Mother's Day, she was rude as well, and I ordered an almond milk latte. When I opened the lid, it was literally black coffee with almond milk added to it. No foam or anything. The cappuccino I had ordered for my mom was terrible as well according to her. The coffee isn't cheap here but until that day, we never minded paying for it as we have always loved it. I initially was not going to complain about this, as at the end of the day, it is just coffee. But i'm realizing now that it was Mothers day, and the service was so terrible, and especially after what happened today. I am SO disappointed especially since we have been customers for so long and have always loved coming here. The rudeness we experienced from this single employee (twice), and the unclarity of what she was telling me, was unacceptable. I understand these are tough times, but we need to remain kind and civil towards one another, always. I'm frustrated that after all these years of spending money here, this happens. It felt like a waste today for the first time. Would love something to be done about...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of the several locations in Marin, but last Wednesday I received the worst service ever at the Larkspur Landing Cafe. I ordered a bowl of soup to go. I received my order, and when I went to the car, whoever put the order together didn't close the lid properly. The soup was so hot, it was raining, the paper bag didn't help either, and the scalding soup went on my lap. It burnt my leg, and although it was painful, I was relieved I didn't hand it to kid that was in the car with me otherwise it would have been worst if my child got burnt with the hot soup. I couldn't do anything because I had jeans, and the soup was everywhere, it was horrible and it left a red burn on my leg. I called the cafe, and told them to be careful, they need to be prepared to hand off hot prepared food, the markets, they put a tape to secure the lids. I explained this to the man on the phone, he said he would be refunding me my money, and to have a nice day. Really? I just told him I burnt my leg with the soup, and he is repeating some verbatim, have a nice day?All my clothes got soiled, and the worst was the car, thick soup every where. It needs to go for detailing. I left a message with the corporate website, and the response I got? Do you want to...
Read moreRustic Bakery, IMO, has a bit of an identity crisis. I actually know them for their packaged goods (crackers, cookies, etc.) that are often in speciality markets in SF (or even the occasional tech company microkitchen.) When you go to this space, it's beautiful and mostly minimal inside. It reminds me of a cross between Panera Bread and Dean & Deluca (minus a huge market.) The major difference is that they mostly sell stuff they make themselves and put it in packaging similar to Dean and Deluca. Their sandwiches and salads are similar as well. They have a great coffee selection from Portland's Stumptown. Their seating is plentiful too (but I could do without the elevator music a la Panera.) I tried the Marin Melt sandwich (Cowgirls Mt Tam & Pt Reyes Toma cheeses on Wheat Bread.) It comes with mixed greens and a sliced apple (and that apple was mighty tasty!) I loved the cheese in the sandwich, but wasn't a huge fan of the bread. I love wheat bread, but the bread lacked texture (something you might get at Tartine) and I wasn't a fan of the sesame seeds on the crust. The cold pressed coffee from Stumptown was great. I think I'd go back moreso for the coffee and pastries, not so much for sandwiches. It's a beautiful spot in...
