I don’t know what has happened to Susie Cakes over the past couple of years but it has changed, not for the better. The customer service is still top tier. The vibes of the shop are great. But the products themselves have gone down hill. While they boast that they only use real ingredients, the icing isn’t the same. It’s no longer that good classic icing, which gets that slightly crunch outter layer when exposed to air. The taste and texture are gone. It now has that “Safeway icing” after taste that tickles the back of your jaw. Maybe they switched to artificial sugars. It’s also whipped, so it’s fluffy. Yes, that does sound like a good thing, but when it comes to classic American “frosting”, it’s not supposed to be fluffy to the point of aerated like whipped cream. It’s supposed to be fluffy yet dense. The icing/frosting used to be that way with these cakes/cupcakes. That is gone. The cake part itself has also changed. The texture is denser, with a tighter crumb. Not in a pound cake way, but more like it was over mixed and refrigerated right out of...
Read moreThe change of service and the fact that you can’t walk in and buy a cupcake is very disappointing. I have to pre-order on my phone?! What?! I was recently with family and kids eating next door and my kids love Susie Cake cupcakes. I though I would surprise my kids and give them a treat. I walked to the store and read the sign on the door that they only take pre-orders now. Wow! What a loss! I’m not sure how this business model is going to work. They just lost a LOT of business this way. So many families walk around that shopping center and the fact you have to pull out your phone and do this prior is one more step that gives me time to pause and say “nope,” I don’t need that. Especially in a time when I’m trying to get my kids away from devices and they are wanting me to get on one. So, needless to say, I turned around that day very disappointed and went to Victoria Bakery and got the most delicious slice of carrot cake I’ve ever had!! Yum, and that you Victoria Bakery. Looks like you have...
Read moreI ordered red velvet cake through DoorDash to be delivered to a colleague for New Year’s celebration. The delivery was great, but the cake not so much. She said the cake was decent and the cream cheese frosting is good. I requested the writing on top the cake which they charged an extra $3.50. I’ve never been charged for the writing on the cake but, ok, it’s not a lot so whatever. I wouldn’t have minded except that it is absolutely hideous, so amateur looking, way worse than what my 12yr old daughter could have done, not at all bakery quality. I’m so embarrassed that this was a gift and sent an apology. So...
