Sounds Unique — Local services in Las Cruces

I had Sounds Unique replace my speaker system in my old car and I was pretty disappointed in the way it sounded afterwards. It was tinny and low quality sounding. I didn't make a big deal out of it though because Rudy had mentioned after they completed the job that it would not sound bass heavy because the car could not accommodate anything other than small speakers. I later installed a sub anyway, which made it sound okay, but still very hallow in the mids.

Well, I've recently got a newer model of the exact same car, and I have been transferring over parts. Turns out my car CAN accommodate larger speakers. In fact, it is SUPPOSED to have larger speakers. Nonetheless, instead of installing 5x7s for the rear speakers, they installed 13cm speakers. Additionally, the speakers were mounted so unprofessionally, I'm surprised they even stayed in place. I was able to remove them from the stock mounting bracket without using a single tool. Why? Because they smashed bits of plastic between the screws and the speakers to hold them in place since they were using the wrong size of speakers. I still have to see if they installed the correct size of front speakers.

I'll be calling them after the weekend to see what they have to say. If they are willing to resolve this issue, I will be willing to give a better review, but at this point I'm not hopeful that a business that is dishonest enough to deliberately lie to people for a quick buck is going to go out of their way to rectify this situation.

For reference, the car I had them replace the speakers on was a 1991 Ford Escort Pony, and the car I have now is a 1994 Ford Escort LX 4-door. The stock systems in both are nearly identical, and yet, it turns out that stock speakers of the right size sound better than tiny aftermarket speakers (the stereo in my old car did not work at all when I bought it, so I did not know).

I went with them to support local business over an international corporate chain like best buy, but these guys give local businesses a bad rap.

UPDATE: turns out that the front speakers were 13cm as well, instead of the 6.5 inch ones they...

I went in and bought a stereo , speakers harnesses , back up camera wiring etc….. and was told to wait two weeks for it to come in. When they called me and said I could go pick up they actually screwed me over big time. They gave me a display model from store which was not what I was sold.and back up camera wouldn’t work. I called them they told me they would look at it nothing but arguing from owner Rudy himself. They had terrible service for me burned me with a display model and had zero customer appreciation. Please go to fx audio on Solano their awesome and have my car in immediately to help with sounds unique aweful service. Just can’t believe they’re selling people new stereos but actually giving them the display model behind their back. I’m a business owner of a remodeling coming UNDER THE ROOF. And we I paint a house or install a toilet etc… I don’t go find used stuff to work on the customers house and charge them new prices. pretty messed up and only thing they could say is I couldn’t return it without a 15% restocking fee. Not even caring they sent me home with a used stereo for over 1600 dollars. I had to replace the speakers in my pickup doors one in each front door(2) and one in each back door(2). I went back multiple times because the door speakers so quite I can not here them unless I adjust the sound so the dash speakers are off( the door speakers are running 30% lower then the dash or quieter. I requested several time to have the speakers replaced or something so both the door speakers are at the same volume as the dash. I now must go to the dealership or some other car audio shop to get Manufacture speakers reinstalled or a set of speakers that properly works with my stereo system, all the speakers need to be the same volume. With all this trouble I strongly recommend you go some ware else for you audio needs. I am out of hundreds of dollars and...
