Incredibly overpriced and just not what the course used to be. It’s sad because the Dye Design (PB, not Pete) at one time was a blast to play: crazy tight fairways, some excellent green complexes, and a fair value. Those days are long gone as the golf explosion continues to raise the prices, and golf courses that are nowhere near the value they are charging are taking advantage. I will give Desert Pines a little credit for redoing the greens. If they can keep them firm and fast, it will be a lot better when springtime conditions roll around. But, for the time being, there is just way better golf to play in Vegas. I would have loved to see Desert Pines find some way to incorporate lights into the course. With such a small property and so many holes running alongside one another (you will have people playing a different hole on your fairway, that’s a given), it would have been a fun place to play at night during the high summer temps. It sucks the Vegas Valley is losing another course, but if I’m being honest, this one is not going to be missed. I also want to say that Joe, aka HittinGreens, is a HUGE fan of this place, and it’s why I’ve added a star to the ranking. Some enjoyment can be found on the course; that’s a given. But as I compare it to how it was just 5-6 years ago, it’s sad to see it how it’s being managed now.

Desert Pines is a well designed course by Pete Dye. The fairways are bowl shaped to send slight misses back in play, a great feature for such a tight layout. The course conditions have deteriorated since a few years ago. The greens today were little slow and bumpy. There were lots of ball marks on the greens! The pin locations were set in awkward places. The tees were placed on downhill lies on too many holes. The biggest problem is the many bushes that are overgrown, full of leaves and debris, and make it difficult to find balls if the fairway is missed. I lost 3 balls and usually can play the same ball for several rounds My recommendation is to trim all the bushes all over the course so that players can quickly locate their ball, and keep play moving. The bunkers were awful, most were too wet, or too hard. The lakes looked dirty, but that was minor compared to the bush problem. I won a tournament here on the Golf Channel Amateur Tour, and don’t remember the bushes being such a problem. Hazards should be lakes, bunkers, rough….. but not overgrown bushes on almost every hole. This course could easily be 5 stars , and the employees were pleasant.

Unfortunately, it seems that this course just isn't being invested in. While the staff was friendly, everything was just a bit too worn out, broken, and not up to the prices they're charging. We rented clubs, and they were beat up and worn out. The snack shack didn't have any burgers or hotdogs, and their card reader was broken so they couldn't take your money anyway. The course itself looks like it was a great place in its day. Now it needs some help. Many cart paths are broken up, and nobody seems to care enough to repair a ball mark. The nearby roads make many holes quite loud, and the area of town this course is in also looks like it's seen better days. They had two starters, but no marshals to help speed things up. It's hard to enjoy a five hour round when you wait so long at each tee. For the money, I would look elsewhere.

I booked this tee time and was absolutely stoked about coming to play, but ended up quite disappointed. Let me explain: Online they say to inquire at the clubhouse if you have a rider, and thinking that with the hefty price point, there would be a little bit of accommodation and flexibility, I had my pregnant wife come along. Little did I know that they almost don’t have enough carts to take care of a normal busy day. With unbelievably vague instructions from the clubhouse, they told me that they didn’t have room for my wife to ride, even though I was willing (and expecting) to pay extra. Luckily my wife is patient, and had plans to go get her nails done. I ended up getting paired as a single with half of a bachelor party group of 8. They had one guy come to just ride along too. He ended up staying and just rode with 2 other guys on one cart on one of their laps. The group I got paired with was super great. Great golfers and totally understanding to my single-player situation. Things turned south when we got to the turn and the 2 groups of the bachelor party ended up combining to drink and have a good time. They were not the issue. They were there to party and that is fine! Totally cool, totally normal thing to do. The reason it sucked for me is that I was stuck following along this party group and was the odd duck out. You might say, well why didn’t you stay behind and walk, or as for another cart to be able to do your own thing? To that I would say, for charging a price-point of $160 or so, the course sure didn’t give me a whole lot of options. If I had wanted to walk, I would have paid to walk. I paid to ride and was willing to pay extra to have my spectator ride with me, but nope. Anyway, absolutely no shade to the bachelor party boys. Great guys, fun time, but there for a different reason than me, and I was just stuck.

Please fix this, or charge less. I don’t feel like I got my moneys worth, and with the course in such terrible condition, I don’t think this would be return...

11 of us played golf when we were down in Vegas for a Bachellor Party. The course itself was in pretty good shape, the greens rolled fairly true and the fairways were lush.

However, the experience with the staff was not so good. First off I booked tee times for the 11 of us to play and they charged me for 12 players. When I asked about it they said I was charged a no-show fee for the 12th player. When I called and asked about the charge they said they would call me back the next day to see what they could do, to this date I still have not received a call or any refund. I think its pretty sad considering there was 11 of us playing, not to mention the pile of money we spent on booze while playing.

Secondly, when I first arrived to the course I had a bottle of Minute Maid Juice with me that I was planning on saving for the round cause it was about 90oF outside. The guy who took our bags said I could not bring my bottle of juice with me….UMM EXCUSE ME, I though he was joking!!! I cant bring a bottle of juice on the golf course, you are going to make me buy one for 7 bucks instead…WOW! When asked why he really didn’t have a good answer and just said we don’t sell that kind hear so you cant bring it, probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard at a golf course in my life. Following this altercation we decided to eat in the clubhouse before heading to the driving range. When I went outside to get my clubs again the same bag guy was digging though my golf bag, maybe looking for more stuff I “wasn’t allowed to bring on the course”. Never in my life have I seen such disrespect and lack of professionalism at a golf club.

Out of shear principal, none of us will play any of the courses operated by the company again. There are lots of courses around Vegas...I dont need to be treated like that...

I’ve been playing golf in Las Vegas for nearly 20 years. I played Desert Pines again for the first time in several years today and was saddened to find it to be a shell of its former self. Obviously the new management and greenskeeping staff is incompetent. All the greens are completely dead and we were putting on sand that had been dyed green. Bunkers were poorly kept and fairways were below average, often bare. I noticed several areas where they apparently had stopped watering and some of their trademark Desert Pines were simply dead. Some sort of fire off the 12th tee has burned a large area and it’s never been cleared. Tiny details like the sign telling golfers whether pin positions were position A B or C for that day have been neglected. The driving range here used to be one of the best in Las Vegas with automatic ball feeders. Those have all been removed and the whole multi level range looks in bad disrepair. Cobwebs covered one range ball dispenser which was broken anyway so I could not use it. The turf appeared to be badly burned out and you merely had regular old golf mats to hit off of. Several years ago this was a shorter course but one with a crafty challenging design that was extremely well-kept and had outstanding greens. Today it’s worse than a terrible municipal course. I can only describe what’s happened at this course as a golf tragedy. I’d strongly advise anyone against playing here. It will no doubt take years to restore it to the condition it used to be in, if that...
