So I've always raved about Rolling in Dough bakery and I have ordered many multiple cakes through this bakery. Three gender reveal cakes, two birthday cakes for my older one and one birthday cake for my younger one. My husband has also purchased a birthday cake for me as a surprise through them. Without a doubt plus tipping we have all in all probably spent $800 plus in cakes with them. Yes, their cakes are very most and delicious and their designs have always met my expectations. What really bothers me with this bakery is that, they do not keep any kind of system in place to show your loyalty to their bakery. They should be able to pull up a history for their client by phone number or whatever and see past cakes they have designed for you. That's one complaint. My most recent issue with them is I am a mom of two. I purchased party decorations for my sons 5th birthday that came with some cake toppers. They requested I bring those to them once the order arrived from Amazon. As suggested I did bring the cake toppers. I go to the Charleston location. As I pulled up into the parking lot my one year old was knocked out and my at that time almost five year old is too young to be left alone in the vehicle with his sleeping brother. I called the store and asked nicely if someone could just meet me at the curb (literally like six steps from their front door) the person who answered informed me that she cannot make that happen, as everyone is attending someone. I of course totally understand and proceeded to park my vehicle, get my kids out of their car seats and walk up to the store. Two bakery ladies were sitting outside at one of the tables going through their calendars, schedules and what not, I open the front door and NOT a single customer was inside and there was FOUR additional workers inside just standing around. All i simply asked is if someone could just meet me at the curb so I can hand off these paper cake topers for my ALREADY placed and paid for order. I think the customer service was ridiculous that day. Any parent knows the absolute struggle of waking a sleeping baby from the car seat just to literally place them back into the car seat literally 5 seconds later. For that I will NOT return to Rolling in Dough bakery and I will NO longer recommend this bakery to anyone. At all my parties people would ask me and I have taken business cards in the past and handed them out. I know will search for another place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe cake we got looked great but it ended up being a massive disappointment because it tasted awful.
I agonized over whether or not to give Rolling in Dough their third star and, eventually, I decided I had to because they really went out of their way to do great decorations.
However, they knew that the primary audience for the cake they made was a little boy on his fifth birthday and they did not warn me about the flavor of the cake. Little kids expect birthday cakes to be sweet.
Neither my son nor my daughter could stand the flavor of the cake and, really, I couldn't either. My wife and mom both choked down a piece. My wife is being a real trooper and eating more, repeatedly saying "I don't think it's that bad."
Well, even if that were true, I don't want to measure a $225 birthday cake on how bad it tastes.
My personal experience aligned perfectly with my kids. I thought the cake, filling, and frosting were pretty awful. There was no sweetness and virtually no flavor in any of the three components.
If I had to describe the cake's flavor - and it took me a long time to come up with this comparison - it would be "extra heavy Wonder Bread slathered in a quarter-inch thick layer of chilled margarine."
The cake looked great. It looked so good that we put my son's candles in a little Starbucks muffin so as to avoid ruining the truly amazing decoration job they did. After eating some of his cake, saying "It's yucky. It tastes like butter," and throwing it up, he asked if he could have the cranberry muffin.
I felt bad for the little guy.
I still feel bad for him. If I didn't, I probably would have just let this slide and never bought there, again.
If they weren't such skilled bakers, both my wife and I would guess they had simply forgotten to put any sugar in any of the mixtures. I sincerely doubt that's what happened, though. I think it's SUPPOSED to taste bland and oily...like maybe that helps the decorations hold or something.
Anyway, don't buy from this place if you want a good tasting cake - unless, of course, you're one of those people who subscribes to the "East Coast" doctrine of dessert where any and all flavor is to be avoided at all costs.
...but DO buy from this place if you want an amazing looking cake that a bunch of adults are supposed to pick at and talk about what a great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was helping my brother and sister-in-law plan their runaway Vegas wedding. This place came up on Google with great recommendations so I sent it to my sister-in-law. She bought a very small cake that would give around 10 slices, which cost $200. We figured that might be standard with wedding cakes and the design that she was wanting so we proceeded anyways. The morning of the wedding they told us to come get it no later than 11 which is when they open. I called to check on the status. Nobody answered. I drove 30 minutes to go pick up the cake assuming it was done. When we got there, they told us their ovens were not working and that it was not done yet. The young lady who helped us was very nice. However, it should have been prepared the night before and awaiting pick up in the refrigerator. Not to mention they did not even communicate that the cake would not be completed in time. They told us they would deliver, which is fine. We asked them to deliver later in the day after the wedding. We then called about an hour later to reschedule the delivery time. They told us then that the driver was actually on the way and we had to meet him in 5 minutes. The delivery was two hours earlier than the anticipated drop off time with no call other than the one I made to them. This interfered with us getting into our scheduled limo and the time of our family getting ready together. We actually almost missed the limo, who was threatening to leave, because the cake set back. Because the cake had not had time to settle it was completely melted within an hour. It tasted great, however the bride was very upset that $200 was wasted on poor communication and a melted cake for her once in a life time vegas wedding. If I could rate on communication I would rate -10. Completely unprepared and terrible communication. We smoothed the icing as best we could, but very disappointed in this. Very unfortunate the bride trusted this shop for her dream wedding cake and...
