Artisan Buttercream — Restaurant in Lathrup Village

I hosted an 80th birthday party for my mother in November at a restaurant. I wanted something other than a cake. After a lot of searching, I discovered Artisan Buttercream (formerly known as Caren's Cakery). It was a milestone birthday deserving of something special. Karen markets herself as a custom baker and that's the absolute truth! Aside from seeing her work, I was drawn to her business because she's "by appointment only." Someone that values time? Sign me up!

Karen and I talked about the party, location, and everything in between. Until I started planning the party, I hadn't heard of luxe cupcakes. Once you see them, regular cupcakes are laughable. I ordered a tasting box with a few different flavors. My birthday attendees were all seniors, so I didn't need anything too wild. I'll skip ahead. Who likes to read long reviews besides me?

As I ferried the cupcakes to the restaurant, the aroma of buttercream was wafting through the car. Let's talk presentation. It's worth noting that I didn't get a preview and was operating on faith that all would be well. Karen did NOT disappoint. Mom's favorite colors are black and gold. Mom loves slot machines. Karen managed to merge those tidbits into a beautiful presentation. Mom cried when she saw them. Her church family wanted to know where I found them. Everyone happily took advantage of the cupcake holders I bought to take extras home. I would've added more pics, but the guests were too fast. Mom professionally decorated cakes years ago and can be hypercritical of baked goods. These cupcakes? Nothing but praise.

My husband and I are so happy we got work with Karen for our wedding cake! We cannot recommend her more highly. We got the most amazing cake ever. You never know for sure what you're going to get when you try to do a custom cake. We shared our thoughts and ideas with Karen and she absolutely brought it to life. The communication was consistently quick and professional. Any questions or concerns on either side were handled quickly.

The attention to detail was very much appreciated. All the nuances were perfectly done.

As for the cake? Wow!!! Exceeded expectations in every way. It looked perfect, first of all. But then it tasted great too. It was a big hit from start to finish.
