iFreeze Creamery — Restaurant in Royal Oak

We stopped at iFreeze in early August excited to celebrate a birthday with a treat. We saw the great reviews and wanted to try it.

The positives:

The ice cream itself was very good, and the staff were friendly and apologetic when mistakes happened.

The challenges:

We were told our order would take 10–15 minutes, but it ended up being about 35-45 minutes.

My wife’s vegan order was made incorrectly at first, and while the staff remade it right away, it added more time.

My milkshake came in a different cup because they had run out of milkshake cups, which meant I couldn’t take it to go without spilling.

Between the errors and slow pace, what should have been a quick stop stretched to just over an hour.

This made things stressful since we had our 2-month-old with us, who was overtired by the time we left and a lot of work to keep calm during the long wait. We also inadvertently overstayed our paid parking since we didn't realize how long we'd been made to stay. This distressingly resulted in a ticket that was later (thankfully) dismissed by the court.

I also want to note that I reached out directly to the owner via email to ask them to help make things right before coming here to leave this review. Reaching out to them via email was something they asked (really, distastefully demanded, see for yourself) other reviewers to do before posting publicly. I did so, but I never received a reply despite a few email follow-ups.

Overall, while the ice cream was tasty and frontline staff was friendly, the long wait, order issues, and lack of follow-up from management left a very disappointing impression and thoroughly tainted a birthday celebration. So I've been a chef for about 14 years. I've spent a lot of time, especially with the kids, trying different icecream shops and bakery's and honestly not a single one is even a close SECOND. These guys have it down. It's unique and filled with love and passion. The owner is so friendly and knowledgeable and Ive caught myself many times having long conversations about food and life in general. The passion is here, the decor is absolutely brilliant and they stay experimenting and creating new things. These guys refuse to settle and be comfortable or content. I drive about 30 minutes and park in horrible traffic (as anyone who visits downtown Royal oak knows all to well) just for this owner and this shop. My kids love it, I love it. This place is legit!! We happened to try it out after having dinner nearby, and we were so glad we did! The options are plentiful (including GF and dairy free), and the combo options we tried (Banana Pudding, Nutella & S’mores) were so amazing we couldn’t pick a favorite. The price point is also worth noting. With everywhere else seeming so costly and overpriced, iFreeze is more than fairly priced. Lastly, the service was impressive. Four younger individuals were working and they tended to us with the utmost care and attention.
