If there's one thing that matters in the hospitality industry, it's hospitality. And this trip/stay was definitely lacking in that.
Upon checking in, things were cordial enough until we went to go park and all of the parking spaces/garages had either signs saying no parking or the gates were pulled down. After driving around for 10 minutes, we pulled into whatever spot was behind the hotel and hoped we wouldn't be towed.
Re-entering the hotel, I asked what was going on with the parking situation as it seemed pretty chaotic. Without skipping a beat, the person who checked me in and previously assigned me my hotel room tells me that you can park where ever you like because its a "pandemic" and no ones going to tow you.
Seems like information that might have been helpful when I was just here? Checking in? Not to mention, did this concierge really just tell me "No ones going to tow me?" like I was at an after hours bar or something? How do you not have parking assigned for your guests that are paying $300 for a room? Seemed extremely suspect to me. Anyways..
We take the elevator up to the room on a "higher" floor (paid extra for a "view") and get settled in. Upon opening the blinds we see the "view" we've been greeted with are about 10-15 homeless people sitting outside of a church..some of them urinating, some of them sleeping but definitely not the view I thought I paid for..
Again, no judgement. These are people who are down on their luck and I feel bad about that. But did I really just pay extra money for a "View" and the "View" is of homeless people suffering in the elements and using the bathroom? I was less than enthused and when I brought it up with Hyatt they didn't seem to think it was a big deal and more or less implied I was being unreasonable.
As if all of that weren't enough, the Police showed up no less than 3 times that evening to the hotel, like it was in a bad part of town or something. Lights, sirens, the whole damn thing. It was ridiculous.
In short, don't stay here. You'd be better off at a hotel HALF the price because that's service you're going to receive. Sure, the rooms are OK (did I mention our bathroom was DISGUSTING?) but they're certainly not worth what they're charging. Not to mention upon walking into the elevator, we were greeted with 2 bags of what I can only assume were cocaine and a smaller bag of marijuana spilled out on the floor.
Gross. And, let me just say as well, Hyatt's Customer Service was garbage. I contacted them the day after this happened and it took them almost a week before they'd respond. I had to file a complaint with the BBB before I got anyone to call or email me. And even then they...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed 4 nights at this hotel while visiting family in Detroit. Location is great, between good shopping on Woodward and in Troy and easy access to the University District in Detroit. While overall the hotel is a good deal…. there are a few details that ranged from VERY Annoying (VA) to they-could-do-better. I’ll list them all and you can decide how they would impact your stay. VA-1. At check-in we asked about parking and were told we could park in one of about 20 ground level spots at the back of the hotel and ONLY on the top level (ROOF) of the garage. The rest of the garage and outdoor spots are reserved for the company next door. We scraped ice off of our rental car on chilly mornings…. not what I was expecting after Google-mapping the hotel and seeing a garage. Just know, the garage is not attached AND you can not park inside. The room had great space. We were in a corner suite. Nice separate living room with TV and decent bedroom space… good bed. Poorly lit room with tiny closet and not much drawer space (they are oddly narrow). VA-2 was the fact that there was no wastebasket in the bathroom. You may not think this merits a comment but BOTH of us were bugged by this morning and night. Hyatt would reply that there IS a wastebasket and that’s true… a tiny thing wedged between the toilet and wall with a flip lid attached. So every time you wanted to drop a tissue, q-tip, etc.,you had to lean across the toilet. Not good! There was a wastebasket in the living room but it was too tall to fit under the bathroom sink/counter. VA-3. The hotel website states,“ Wake up to breakfast served fresh every day. Start your morning with cage-free eggs, steel-cut oatmeal, whole fruit, all-natural bacon and sausage, and more.” What I found were tasteless clumps of what must be powered eggs … there were hard boiled eggs daily but no option to have an egg cooked to your specifications available and day-old, hard, barely warm potatoes. My hubby was fine with cereal, fruit and meat. He doesn’t eat eggs - go figure 🙂 Coffee was good! Drinks and burgers in the Lobby Lounge area were GREAT and our server was great too. I wish I could remember his name. Overall, we give the hotel an 8 but with a few small changes it...
