Let me preface this by saying I love Jamaican food. The vibrant spices, the comforting richness, the sheer joy of a well-executed curry goat or a perfectly seasoned jerk chicken – it’s a culinary embrace. That’s why my recent experience at Jamaica House was so utterly, profoundly, and, frankly, awfully soul-crushing. If I could give a negative 1, that's the number of stars I would give. So i ordered from UberEATS a month ago. i ordered an oxtail with rice and peas and for some crazy reason, i got a plate full of cabbage and oxtails. i tried reaching out to ubereats but they would not refund me bc I submitted the request a day later. 2 nights ago, i decided to give them another chance since my favorite go to Jamaican restaurants (Island Tingz, Fiery Irie and Cliff’s) were closed. the dish I was most excited about, the very reason I ventured into this culinary abyss, was the Stew Peas. this time I ordered a stew pea with white rice. What i got was a sloppy version of nastiness.it was so thick. Oh, the stew peas. I’ve had stew peas that were creamy, luscious, and packed with tender beans and flavorful meat. I’ve had stew peas that were a warm hug on a plate. What I was served at Disappointment Diner was… an enigma. A thick, sludge-like concoction that defied all known laws of stew peas. It was so dense, so unyielding, it was practically inedible. Trying to spoon it was an arm workout. The beans, if you could even call them that, were hard and mealy, like chewing on tiny, flavorless pebbles. The little meat that was present was tough and dry, lost in the impenetrable mass. It wasn’t just thick; it was viscous. It clung to the spoon like a desperate, unloved pet. There was no creamy richness, no subtle sweet spice, no hint of coconut milk or thyme. It was just… brown. And heavy. And utterly, utterly disappointing. I tried to salvage a bite, hoping I was mistaken, but each attempt was met with a flavor profile that can only be described as “sad. “I was at work and I decided to take this home to my dogs, but I changed my mind bc I would hate for my dogs to die on my account and at my fault. The entire experience was a stark reminder that not all Jamaican restaurants are created equal. Some are havens of deliciousness, offering a true taste of the island. Others, like Disappointment Diner, are culinary cautionary tales. I left feeling not just unsatisfied, but actively annoyed. Annoyed that my craving for good Jamaican food was so brutally rebuffed. Annoyed that such a classic dish could be so utterly butchered. So, to the proprietors of Disappointment Diner, I implore you: please, for the love of all that is delicious, rethink your stew peas. And perhaps consider a deep clean and a masterclass in flavor. My stomach, and the stomachs of countless other Jamaican food lovers,...
Read more40 minutes in the drive-through is crazy, I have a drive-through if it's not speedy. Service was horrible. I would've drove off if I didn't pay first, so I had to sit there and wait. this place has nothing on the one in North Miami that's open 24 hours. The ladies in the front look like they don't wanna be there . Honestly if you're gonna spend $20 on anything you should at least get good service. With everything being so expensive now running a business like this you're gonna go down the toilet really fast. I'm very fair and honest and I could look over a bunch of things wrong. But when the service is slow and terrible and expensive throw the whole restaurant away. I honestly regretted going there and spending my hard earned money. Honestly like the other review say Donna's Golden crust and Dutch pot are all way better options honestly. A truly utter honest disappointment where I even feel like disputing that charge on my card. to those who have actually had good experience at this place I envy you guys because I love Jamaican food I love Caribbean food , no I could've looked past that if the food was actually good but the oxtails were all bones and fat no meat the rice was cold and a little stale horrible...
Read moreAlot of these reviews seem fake so here is a real one. This was my first time here. I have been waiting for them to open and decided to try them out today. I got the curry chicken with white rice & steam cabbage. And my companion got the red pea soup. The staff were nice, friendly and took my order promptly. My food also came out promptly. My food was hot but not too hot. The rice and chicken came in one pack, and the steam cabbage came in a pack by itself. The white rice itself tasted like it was freshly made, was season well and had a slight buttery taste to it. Just like I make at home. The cabbage itself also tasted good. The cabbage was seasoned and cook thoroughly. Now to the star of the show. The curry chicken. It was very good. The curry chicken was seasoned well, and was slightly peppery taste to it. Like they make it with scotch bonnet. If I had to compare it to dutch pot, I would choose this curry over dutch pot. Not to say dutch pot is bad. Jamaica house just tastes better. To me. Slightly. They also have several selections of juices, but I got a ting. The only bad thing I can say about the restaurant is that the parking lot is small. Overall I would...
