Just after 6 pm on a Friday, two of us were walking down Mass Ave. looking for a place to eat supper when we noticed Limestone. We walked in and it was packed, but the hostess told us there would only be a 10 minute wait so we got seats at the bar. Finding we could order a meal at the bar, we decided to eat there. I ordered an IPA on draft after checking out the dizzying array (at least 32) of craft beers available in cans or bottles. My partner had a Willamette Valley pinot noir she insisted I taste because it was so good. Then she ordered a salad with roast chicken while I got a pastrami melt. Our meals came quickly, but meanwhile it was entertaining watching the bartenders (Maddie?) mix a variety of exotic cocktails right in front of us. Limestone seems to specialize in custom pizzas with a wide variety of toppings and it was fun watching pizzas go in and out of a giant, wood-fired stone oven about 10 feet away. The customers were a mix of young families, college kids and middle age couples. My pastrami melt (basically a Reuben) was excellent, with unusually peppery pastrami (I like!) and crisp, tangy sauerkraut. My partner's salad was also praised. I can't speak for the table service, but every request got instant service at the bar. We'll be going back next time we're...
Read more12:30 for a 3pm Saturday game at Allen and the wait was 3 minutes. Asked to be seated at the east end of the bar close to the Limestone oven. Watched the pizza dough being hand pressed, fingertip patted, then hand tossed and stretched fresh for each and every Pizza. (obviously the author of the 1 star review suggesting that the pizzas were made ahead and reheated, forgets that although she has the power to write lies that people can read, those same people can also witness with their own eyes, the fresh Pizzas being made real time out in the open for everyone to see)
The bartender is reason enough to rate this restaurant 5 stars. He was a joy to watch, knowledgeable, educational, and even built 5 ingredient ginger ale from scratch; now that is adding love! He took care of our every need. Best seat in the house is the east end of the bar by the Pizza tossers... worth waiting for if you have a chance.
Mushroom Pizza had super flavor. This is not 2# of ingredients piled onto soggy crust. This is artisan pizza where often less is more and it is about the crispness and char of the crust exposing the flavors of the oil and freshness and flavors of top ingredients.
Well Done Limestone! Certainly a five star game...
Read moreFirst time here. Big fan of Neapolitan pizza so I was excited to try it. The inside restaurant space is small and if you have a party of two you will likely be crammed in tight on either side of the restaurant up front with people constantly coming in and out and standing next to you waiting for their orders. Not necessarily bad, but if you want privacy you don’t get it here. Service was good, no complaints there. Our cocktails were tasty but $$$, but that seems to be the MO everywhere. Our appetizer (goat cheese croquettes) was ok at best. Only two croquettes and four slices of dry toast with barely any sauce? Finally for the pizza and hence the mid-ranking review. It literally took us a full hour after ordering to get our pizza. They had a busy night of take out and prioritized that over us. Pretty slow considering these pizzas only take 1-2 minutes to cook. The pizza was good, not the best Neapolitan pizza I’ve had but still good. The red sauce was a bit too sweet and applied to thick in my pepperoni. The NOLA was our favorite and I would order again. Didn’t have time for desert as we were there for 1.5 hours and had to get back. Will again, maybe just had a random...
