Extremely disappointed. Check-in took 50 minutes. Esperanca (girl at desk) couldn't find my reservation (booked through Hotels.com). She Blamed Hotels.com and said "they always do this, they never send us the information". She asked ME to step aside and CALL Hotels.com and tell them to call the hotel. The back and forth with Hotels.com & Esperanca went on for a while in between her checking in other guests (and being WAY TOO chatty) while I waited. Upon walking into the room, there was a Strong smell of Urine. I had to leave (my daughter was exhausted and laid down to nap). I went to the hotel lobby bar and it got WORSE from here. The bartender was so rude (I believe her name was Miracle--whoever was working Sunday 8/3 at 6pm). Ordered vodka soda. It was FLAT. I told her they probably need to check their gun because it was flat. She rolled her eyes, and asked her co-worker to check the CO2. He came back and told her the # it was reading. She then sarcastically ran the gun into a glass right in front of me and said "looks like there's bubbles to me". She then summoned her co-worker around the corner and was whispering. I ended up ordering a glass of wine. My pour was a quarter of what the woman at the other end of the bar was. In addition, she ran out 2 girls who sat at the bar who didn't speak great English. She asked if they were 21 and they said yes. After looking at the menu, the girls tried to order a "mock tail" and she said, "if you're not 21, you can't sit at my bar". She Never confirmed whether they were 21 or not. She asked, they said yes. She never asked for an ID. After her rude exchange with them, they left. THEN, someone from the restaurant sent back a Maker's and diet because it was FLAT! She made another one and sent it out. It came back a 2nd time because it was FLAT! She then back-peddled and began saying "I don't know what's wrong with the guns, that's so weird; the rep won't answer for me tonight so it's my manager who will have to deal with this tomorrow". Another guest came by at 8:15 and ordered a vodka tonic. She rudely replied, "I don't have tonic, my guns aren't working". She was so Rude! I did have the pleasure of chatting with Will for a few minutes (he came behind the bar to replenish cherries). He was so nice, professional & engaging. He should work behind the bar. He would Attract customers and not run them out. In addition, while I sat at this very unappealing bar (with nothing worth watching on the TVs) there were gnats everywhere. Instead of sending Snap Chats, she should have been cleaning her bar. After leaving the bar and heading to my room, I could barely tolerate the odor. It was so bad. Esperanca (who checked me in initially) had texted me and asked how things were going. I told her about the awful smell in my room. She offered to move me but I told her I couldn't because my daughter was asleep and we had an early morning. Maintenance came and sprayed some deodorizer but it didn't help. Upon checking out the next morning I spoke to Shy at the front desk and told her about the urine smell. She was at least nice enough to offer a 25% discount and take off my parking fee of $25. However, her math wasn't quite right and I had to call on 8/5. I spoke to Jess who said he would adjust and send a new receipt. We'll see if the adjustment is finally correct once I receive my receipt. Needless to say, the whole experience was disappointing to put it mildly. The Oread is completely underwhelming. The location is ideal, but...
Read moreI was wary handing over my key of my new Camaro SS to a car hop. Its a manual and am very particular about anyone else driving my car. Instead of going to the valet my girlfriend and I looked for place to park. Cruising down the street we saw parking on the side of the building. There was a small sign at the entrance that said Oread and had their symbol on it under the larger "Oread" there was a pretty lengthy bunch of words, almost paragraph of smaller words. Going ten miles an hour this sign is very much unreadable. Again I emphasize the large "OREAD" and Oread logo took up half of the sign. With that big of a logo it seemed this sign was saying that this parking area was a valid Oread parking location. The next morning my car was gone. I walked to the small sign and read the fine print that stated in a lengthy sentence that it was not a parking spot.
This is what the sign looked like
OREAD LOGO OREAD LOGO OREAD LOGO OREAD LOGO THE OREAD "The lot east of the Oread is not our property. Your car will be towed."
As you can see the sign is not easy to read and poorly worded. A simple NO PARKING would have been much easier to read on such a small sign with the sun setting from a moving vehicle. This small sign was only posted near the entrance and not by any of the parking. If this sign was on the wall of the parking area, it would have been much more helpful.
After I found my car had been towed the bell hop was very helpful in finding the tow company that had my car. He gave me the number of the company. I called them and they wanted $230 CASH only. I felt I was being robbed. I asked to speak to the manger. This lady did not want to talk to me and kept telling her subordinates there is nothing they can do. I finally was able to speak to her after waiting through 2 of her meetings. I told her that this fiasco ruined my stay at this very hotel that she is managing.
She told me that they have been having "a lot of problems like this", but The Oread had done everything they could and that I could catch a cab and use their ATM. I asked for a slight discount on a future room purchase. She politely said no. I then asked if they could partially comp my stay or throw in any freebies, that my help their customer service in this incident. She said she would email me and to have a nice day. She then promptly turned around and quickly walked off.
The kid that was standing beside her told me that they have my information. But I never gave anyone my email address. I felt very blown off. I used their ATM took out $230 then walked over a mile to pay to have my car released.
The manager could have given me 10% my next room purchase or a free breakfast and I would not even be writing this. This put a terrible end to my great weekend.
I am in sales and an Account Manager. If one of my managers treated one of my customers like this, I would let them go and tell them to to see if the Oread is hiring, because they would fit right in. This was the worst costumer service and management I have encountered. Especially at what is supposed to be a...
Read moreWhat a lovely location and beautiful hotel. The deign itself is pretty and the room was so large and spacious. That being said, here are the Pros and Cons to this place.
Checking in was a breeze and the person who checked us in was really nice. They didn't have valet parking available (no big deal) so they have street parking and the attendant mentioned they have a garage where we could park. We opted for the garage since it was conveniently located. Now, I recommend that you read their website thoroughly; I found out after the fact that they charge $15 to park in the garage. At the moment when I opted to use their garage, it didn't occur to me to ask about the cost so that's on me however, the fact that the person wasn't upfront about it, not cool. They could have easily said, "We do have a garage you can use but just so you know now, we do charge $15 per day".
The room itself was strange. No carpeting in the room which is fine, but at least have a rug. Nobody likes to walk around on a cold floor. The bathroom was huge which was nice; shower big enough for two. I will say this hotel has really odd noises. Pretend you are in Brooklyn and the pipes are loud.... it was annoying and all night. We could hear people walking above us (we were on the 4th floor) and it's as though there is zero insulation between the walls. I have never in my life stayed at a place that has a noise canceling machine in the room so clearly they are aware their place isn't quiet.
We LOVED the room service which was fantastic. Food is provided by the Bird Dog Bar. We ordered the Pretzels which were so darn good. I had the cheeseburger with avocado and my husband had The Jayhawker which he said was amazing. The value and cost of the food was appropriate for quantity and quality. I will say that they give you a lot of fries for $5 and it's enough for two people.
My biggest hang up with the room itself was no table and chairs to sit and eat a meal. We had to eat our food sitting on our bed. Every hotel I have ever stayed at all over this country has a table and chair(s) so the fact that this place doesn't, huge bummer. It's the little things folks.
If you are looking for a hotel that offers free breakfast like some do, this isn't the place. So for $179 a night, not worth it. I don't care how amazing the views are or how beautiful the place is. The stay didn't leave us feeling like we wanted to return and we aren't. We didn't hate it but it was simply Meh. I would give this place a solid 2.7 - 3.3 rating out of 5 stars. If I am going to pay $179 a night, I want a table in my room, I want quiet sleep and a room that doesn't feel like I am staying in a nicer version...
