McCray's Tavern is an American style tavern with 2 locations in Atlanta area, one in Midtown, and one in Downtown Lawrenceville. Their menu offers from burgers, and wings, to a couple of dishes from the grill. We ordered: - Slow cooked St. Louis ribs: beer braised, char-grilled, smoked. Served with gouda bacon Mac and cheese, and coleslaw - Chicken Chimichurri served with rice, fresh arugula, and charred tomatoes. Both dishes were great. The Mac n Cheese was probably my favorite thing. Service was great. Kat took care of us, and she was excellent. Very attentive, and I loved she asked us if we really needed straws before putting them on the table. I always forget about my metal straw so that was useful! The restaurant itself was okay, it was kinda dirty when we visited but it was also kinda busy. They also have a rooftop which I might just sit there next time I'm back.

Been eating at McCrays ever since they opened and for the most part have really enjoy it there. They have many choices of beer on tap that rotates. They have an awesome roof top area and most of the food is really good and the beer very cold. Tonight I tried a new burger called the Matador and it was very good. In fact, one the best burgers I’ve had in a while. I have had the cheese grits there on occasion and tonight, even my son commented how dry and lacking cheese taste they were. If you are gonna serve cheese grits in the south, you gotta do better than these. Make them creamy and make sure I taste the cheese. The others in the group were satisfied with most items. One dish was the Fish & Chips, pretty basic as you will see from the photo. I’ve also had it a few times and usually it’s okay. The main reason for the 3 stars is my favorite dish is called the Tavern Chips. Used to be called Gorgonzola Chips and that name should tip you off as to what they are. Over the years we have enjoyed this appetizer so many times I can’t count. It used to be the Chips tasted as if they were freshly made for each order, but not today. Seemed more like warmed up chips made the day before. However my biggest beef is portion size. It has noticeably gotten smaller over the past few years to the point I will not pay $9.50 for this again. It’s really sad that something that was regularly talked about amongst friends, is now a negative talking point. The serving size tonight was either a mistake that i should have addressed and didn’t or a decision to cut serving size to save money. I guess I will never know. Bottom line is if your are looking for a burger and beer, McCrays can hit the spot.

Friday was a beautiful day in Lawrenceville, GA so I could think of no better way to spend my evening than on somebody's rooftop bar/restaurant. My family and I decided to head down to McCrays Tavern at 100 N. Perry Street and E. Crogan. We arrived a little after 5pm and by then most of the rooftop tables had been taken, but the bar was empty...so we accepted the bar seats. The hostesses were both very nice and guided us to the rooftop entrance (past the downstairs bar, facing the restrooms) with menus. Heading up to the rooftop is a little hike, so if you're wearing heels, make sure you have great balance. Once at the rooftop, all of the tables were indeed taken, but the bar was empty. Although the bar was empty, it was a tight squeeze for my party of three. Luckily two guys saw our discomfort and were nice enough to let us have their table. Got to love that southern hospitality! Once we got settled, the waitress (Christine) was there to take our drink orders and get us started. We ordered a blue moon and a local IPA, both were very tasty. For our entree orders, we ordered: St. Louis Ribs, Fried Chicken Salad, and Fish and Chips. All were very good, though the ribs were as tender as I would have liked. During the course of our meal, the rooftop attendance slowly rotated (likely because of the great weather and scenery). So if your in the mood for a nice nite or day out at the rooftop, make sure you get to McCray's early and lock down a great seat. If rooftop dining isn't your thing, there was still plenty of seating inside in the main dining room.

We went here Monday 3/17 for St Patrick’s Day, yes, we understand it’s going to be busy but we arrived at 6:15p, waited about 30 mins which was fine then got seated. The waiter immediately told us what they were out of. I asked for a Baileys, they didn’t have it. I asked for Kahlua Irish cream, he brought me regular Kahlua, I asked for coffee cream and never got it. We ordered our appetizer got it 30 mins later. Our drinks were empty and he never checked on us. We waited 1 hour after our appetizer to ask our own waiter where our food was, again he never checked on us and we had no drinks, I would of have ordered 2 more beers if he had checked on me. He told us our food should have been out. We waited another 10 mins and someone came out with food apologizing for the wait. It wasn’t our food. He was for the people who were sat AFTER us. We didn’t see our waiter for a while. He came by and we flagged him he said the kitchen forgot… I’m thinking the kitchen? Or you? Own up to it if you did and keep my drinks full, check up on me and reassure me you see me and we are waiting for our food. I had to grab another waitress that I was seeing more than my own waiter to ask for a manager. Manager never came out. We flagged our waiter AGAIN and again he blamed the kitchen and the restaurant for not equipping them with enough supplies. Again, not my problem, and he shouldn’t be blaming everything else, that’s not what the customer wants to hear. He never apologized for not checking in with us or anything. He NEVER one asked me if I wanted another drink, I never even got my creamer so I had to drink the Kahlua I didn’t order, black. We told him to cancel order as we still hadn’t seen our food come out, he took about 10 mins to get our check. CHECK ON YOUR CUSTOMERS, keep their drinks full and follow up with them on their food, take accountability, the kitchen being behind is not his fault but not checking in with us and us having to flag him down every-time is his. I’m willing to give them another chance because we’ve eaten here before but yesterday it was a nightmare. Honestly as a manager if they didn’t want to come out at least apologize by comping our ticket. We left a restaurant more hungry then when I arrived. If I could give this experience zero stars...

First time at Mccrays and safe to say I won’t be back. I arrived on a Tuesday night around 7:30pm, decided to try it out with a couple of my friends after one raved about the patty melt. Upon arriving I was met with a warm host and a nicely decorated area, we were quickly seated to our booth and it was clean the candle was a nice atmosphere. We meet with our waiter whose name is Brianna with red hair, she greets us and we try to be open and friendly and ask her how her day was , recommendations etc. She brings us waters for the table, first thing is the water taste like dirt, flint Michigan dirt, maybe it was tap. Okay fine, a lot of places use tap. She leaves after we asked for a few more moments to go over the menu. She doesn’t come back for maybe THIRTY minutes. Okay fine, despite us being like i dunno the 4th costumers in there, maybe she’s busy. Food finally comes out at 8:30, the small lady with black hair was very sweet and even wore gloves to run our food. No complaints, food was decent but my sweet potato fries were cold. I also ordered a Dr pepper and did not receive it. Also fine, I try to pin down our waiter to get a fresh order of fries + my drink. She does not pass us for nearly another 30 minutes, not even to check up on us. I finally flag down another waitress and explain the issue and she isn’t very friendly either, immediately says “Well let me grab your server” she comes back and informed me that the manager said I missed the timed window to complain so I have to either order and pay for a fresh fry or take it was is. Okay fine I get that as well but being the fact my waiter or ANYBODY wasn’t there for our entire dining experience it’s kinda hard to complain to no one. I then just ask the second lady for the brownie sundae. I’m met with a semi warm cosmic brownie thrown into a plate with school ice cream. For $8?! She doesn’t even put it on my bill , but rather my friend’s so now I have to give her the cash. The waiter QUICKLY flies down to give us our tab and despite me tipping I can’t say I would ever return. The food was good but was the service a sacrifice for a subpar burger? I hope this place looks over this and maybe take account of ALL the...

Absolutely the worst dining experience i ever had in my life. Started with the hostess who had no clue who she was sitting or in what order. I witnessed her call on the phone 4 people to be sat only to be told she had already sat them, then did the exact same thing to use 15 mins AFTER we were sat. This is after waiting for an hour. Takes forever for a sever to say anything to us. Once they do, I order a beer and app for the table and it takes 50 mins for my first beer to get there and i order a 20oz and it comes out 16oz. Appetizer had already been eaten and our order hadn't been taken yet or my first beer sat down. Finally ordered our food and it came out 45 mins later. Not once was my wife's water refilled. Took 20 mins for the second beer come out after ordered it ans it was all head like, completely foam.my son wanted the Ruben that was on special and they were out of sauerkraut. Now mind you they have the Ruben as a special along with 1 other special that the Kraut. But they were out, and we arrived there at 6:45. Food finally sets and the fish and chips my wife and son (who really didnt want that to begin with) ordered were all batter with hardly any fish, and the fish that was there was mushy and soggy, it was also supposed to come with slaw that was non existant on either plate., assuming they ran out of that at the beginning if dinner service too. It's was absolutely one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had that's saying something. My wife has worked in restaurants for most of her working life in the kitchen and on the floor. We sympathize with what the people working in restaurants have the deal with. But this is a total and epic fail on managements part. We complained to the server about all the issues and management never even showed up at our table to try and smooth things over. They did take the beers off of the tab but oit if the 2 beers i had there was only 1 beer worth of beer there the rest was foam. The menu is super basic and WAAAY overpriced. $80 dollars for the worst meal I've ever had. I will absolutely never step foot in that place agian. It's ashame because the location and concpwt has potential its just been run into the ground...
