I really, really wanted to give them five stars. Unfortunately, on the four occasions we've visited we have the same lackluster outcome with the steaks.

The steaks are supposed to be amazing to reflect the very high prices. On each occasion we've tried a different steak thinking that maybe we had just made a poor choice before. Every time we are disappointed in the flavor and the cook on our steaks.

During our most recent visit we started with the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. It was absolutely amazing. The cocktail sauce was absolutely perfect and the cook on the shrimp was beautiful. Next we had the 32oz porterhouse. In the past we'd ordered filets and they'd always come out seared within an inch of their lives leaving the outside completely burned, bitter and dry, obliterating any flavor. We figured we'd get a much larger, much more flavorful steak this time that they'd have to cook slower so we got the 32oz porterhouse. Unfortunately the same thing happened. The outside was absolutely hammered - like it'd been dropped in a fire. The inside was VERY unevenly cooked. I understand, a bone-in steak is tough to get right, but for $115 you'd think they'd make an extra effort to pull it off. Ugh. The outside was completely black, bitter and dry, the center away from the bone was medium rare and the areas around the bone were blue rare. We didn't complain because I didn't want to waste more meat with them hammering it like they do because if they didn't get it right the first time, why would they get it right a second time? They must have a million degree searer in the kitchen and they leave the steak on it to cook the whole time.

Three stars because the service is always great, the atmosphere is wonderful, the sides and appetizers we've had have been great, but we've never, ever had a good steak here. Such a shame. If you want a good steak, go to the Ox in the West Bottoms. It's worth the drive for a steakhouse that gets the steak right.
