Buffet King — Restaurant in Lebanon

Business travelers beware! I had to make a choice between Chinese and Mexican here in Lebanon Indiana during a business trip for dinner one night. I chose Buffet King but realized shortly thereafter I made a huge mistake! First off most of the entrées were empty. Granted this was on a Wednesday evening about 7 PM and there were about 10 people in there but when you pay dinner price which was.$15.35 for a meal and drink I would expect a decent meal. The only saving grace I had at this restaurant was there hot and sour soup. It was plentiful, hot and not too bad on flavor. The general TSO‘s chicken, which is a staple at almost every Chinese buffet, tasted more like barbecue chicken. When I got there, there was only a few pieces and on the verge of expiration. The shrimp was cool/cold and I absolutely don’t mean warm or hot. There were two types of shrimp and both of them were what I would consider cold by any stretch of the imagination. I will say that the salad bar and cold items were plentiful and appeared to be fresh for the most part including the salad itself. The lo mein lacked very much flavor, and what I got was not even hot. I opted for some of the teriyaki sticks, but when I got back to my table, I realize they were cold as well. While I was getting an additional bowl of soup, a fellow came in for a take-out order and looked in disgust because of the shape of the bar as it had a little to no food. It looked to me like he complained to the manager or owner, and he went back into the kitchen to report it. By the time the fresh food came out, I had filled myself with hot and sour soup, some lackluster, lo mein, and a few pieces of general TSO’s chicken. The only reason I am giving it two stars is the diet Pepsi was good. Maybe I hit an off day, but based on my experience, when traveling, you can tell the caliber of a restaurant during its off peak times. Fantastic Place. Run by a very kind family. Service is all very nice, and you can tell they really make an effort to give you a good experience. Food selection is great, and they even have hard serve scooped ice cream with flavors such as mint chocolate chip, and cookies and cream!! (Definitely a huge bonus!) Lady always makes frequent stops to clear plates/refill drinks. After a couple visits, she will even remember where you like to sit, and what you want to drink. Very hard worker. At China Buffets, you will always run into cold food from time to time, especially at nights. This is just the reality for Buffets just trying to get bye. However, at this location most of the time the food here is hot and fresh, even during not busy times. Out of all the China Buffets I have been to, this is definitely my favorite by far! Just remember, at the end of the day, it is a buffet, which is a tough business to be in. So if you want to eat at a place that really cares about their customers, and makes a visible effort to provide the best service and food they can, then I cannot recommend this place enough. Haven’t eaten here in quite awhile due to food being nasty but thought we’d try it again! What food was out on the buffet was old, hard, dried out…..just disgusting!! It’s probably been sitting there all day! There wasn’t much food, most were empty needing refilled or only a spoonful left. We were there an hour & this was the way it was walking in & nothing was ever brought out to replenish. I have a bad stomach ache not long after eating. I asked for sweet tea & was brought non sweet tea, I mentioned this to our waitress once she came around & the only time she came around, she then brought me Pepsi that I did not ask for instead of actual sweet tea!! Not many people here at 6pm & it’s no wonder why they rarely have customers anymore! The waitress was also on her phone behind the cart like she was busy. Don’t waste your money. We spent $45 for 2 adults & a 10 year old. Outrageous prices for old nasty food! My 10 year old grand daughter is now not feeling well after eating this nasty food!!
