I'd say 4/5. Only because I was expecting our donuts to be fresh, but they had been made already and were sitting there cold on trays when I got there. I called the shop Friday to ask when the best time to get there for fresh donuts would be over the weekend. They said noon, and I showed up exactly at noon, and the donuts were cold. Either I was lied to, or they don't ever have fresh donuts. Whichever it is, it would lower my rating by a couple points either way.
Aside from that, even cold, the flavor was soft and delicious, churro was our favorite because the rest were very sweet, but we prefer less sweet pastries in general. These are actually the best mochi donuts in the area right now, and are fluffier inside than anywhere else.
Their matcha boba tea was delicious, but the matcha itself wasn't better than Starbucks' matcha. And Starbucks matcha is pretty good so I mean, it's hard to beat that. The bubbles were good, but not any better than Kung Fu tea, most vietnamese restaurants, or any of the smaller places inside Korean supermarkets and stuff.
Definitely not going back unless they start making donuts to order, if I'm going to eat the calories in a donut I want it to be hot and fresh like Duck Donuts.
I will say it's very fun to break off the little pieces and share donuts with friends, I prefer sharing donuts to eating a whole one, and with mochi donuts you don't destroy the donut by breaking it apart, you just gently twist a piece of.
Overall good experience, just the thing about the cold donuts at noon and the thing about the matcha boba tea being ok but still more expensive than most other places felt off to me.
6 mochi donuts, two boba teas, and one Korean hotdog was $40 ish, for your reference.
Update: Thanks for explaining. Most of the videos I found of mochi donuts online showed them coming out fresh with no glaze or dip, which is what my friends and I came in looking for. Maybe we just needed to do more research and find a place that actually served that first, but I don't think you did anything wrong. Unfortunately, it doesn't change my feelings about the review I do wish the fresh, warm donuts without glaze had been...
Read moreI visited Mochinut in Leesburg, VA, and overall, it’s a fun spot with a vibrant atmosphere. While I’m personally not a big fan of their donuts mainly because I prefer made-to-order donuts without icing. I can see why others enjoy them for their chewy texture and colorful toppings.
The Korean corn dogs, however, are definitely worth trying. My go to favorites are the ramen with hot dog and half cheese, as well as the potato version both are absolutely delicious and perfectly crispy. The Cheetos flavor corn dog, though, has been a bit of a letdown on both occasions I tried it, as it tends to be soggy rather than firm like the others.
The boba drinks were my biggest disappointment. My milk tea was much sweeter than the average boba I’ve had, to the point that it overpowered the tea flavor. Honestly, since there’s a boba shop right next door, I’d recommend grabbing your drinks there instead.
On the bright side, the shop itself is beautiful inside clean, colorful, and welcoming. The cashier was young, vibrant, and super friendly, which added to the overall experience. While I wouldn’t come here for drinks, I’ll definitely keep coming back for my favorite Korean corn dogs.
Almost forgot to add, they’re pet friendly. They allowed us to bring my yorkie inside. She also tried the hot dog and enjoyed it.

Read moreWe have been anticipating the opening of Mochinut since we saw the coming soon sign go up and they did not disappoint. Soft and tender on the inside with a little bit of chew to the bite, mochinuts are a combo of the best aspects of Mochi and donuts. We sampled a half dozen flavors: plain glazed, strawberry pocky, blueberry, chocolate crisp, yuzu, and churro. Our favorite out of these was churro with chocolate crisp and blueberry running a close second and third. Least favorite was yuzu for the lack of distinguishable flavor - tasted like the plain glazed basically. I know it’s still the soft opening, so I’m only docking one star for the incredibly disorganized service. We only ordered mochinuts, but instead of having someone dealing just with getting those orders completed and out the door we had to stand around for nearly 20 minutes and wait for the servers to put together complete orders with drinks and other food items, one at a time. The shop was crammed with people also waiting for the same reason. There are plenty of staff in the shop, so the issue is clearly organization - please put one person on drinks, one on mochinuts and one on the cash register to keep things moving! The mochinuts are good, so we will be back - hopefully by then the service kinks will...
