Man, I did not fit in here! Not the right place for leggings and sneakers, but then again I was just picking up a to-go order of the white cheddar fondue. From the bar. Which is ALL the way past the main restaurant, but also where ALL the people were. It was like a business-class/first-class happy hour in there and well, I'm just a cheese and carb-craving suburban mom in leggings and sneakers (no really, retro, NB sneakers in black with red buffalo check - and a tunic sweater.) I had just had my hair done, so at least I had that going for me. I stood around awkwardly at the bar waiting for my order and that was not awesome (I would've sat down, but it was fully packed.) I signed my check and stood around waiting for my order again (they said five minutes, but it was more like ten) and the waiter picked up my check and reviewed it to see what the tip was. THAT was super awkward, but he never turned around, so he never realized I even saw him do it - yay! It was only awkward for ME! Anyway, enough about me, the White Cheddar Fondue was FABULOUS, and for once I had more than enough cheese to go with the pretzel sticks (icecicles? gigantic sperm?) and apple slices on an awkward stick (yeah, there was no classy dipping of the apple and discreetly sliding it from the stick with my lips (or even my teeth darnit!) I had to force them off the toothpicks and they went flying, but fortunately I was sitting in my car and the clam-shaped container and close quarters conatined them all so they were still edible. So I guess I'm glad there was no room at the bar for me to even be tempted to stay and awkwardly eat my apples on a large toothpick with cheese dribbling down my chin. I didn't eat anything else, so you'll have to read other reviews for that. Anywho, something must be great about this place because it seemed to be the "it" spot and was packed (it was also 6 minutes past happy hour ending, so there was probably that.) Side note: this may be an ideal place to pick up businessmen (here's looking at you, all my lovely divorcees whom I live vicariously through, with your funny and sometimes romantic dating stories.) I wouldn't bring my kids here. Not even for lunch. And I ate the food too fast to take a pic (oops!) so here are some pictures of the classy plastic container that does not match the theme of this restaurant, and the free bread and um, hummus? a nice waiter handed me as I was walking out. They may have thought I was homeless, I can't be certain. Oh, and the entrance is around the back, past the recycling and trash dumpsters, so park in the garage or in front of the convention center. P.S. it WAS hummus and it was...
Read moreI’ve been a GSC patron for many, many years. I had never gone to the Lenexa location until last year and would never return there. It was HORRIFIC and they COMPLETELY ruined my child’s birthday lunch. EVERY year I let my children pick whatever restaurant they’d like to be taken out to lunch for their birthday and my oldest daughter (turning 12) picked Grand Street, which should have been a solid choice. My youngest daughter always picks J. Alexanders and my son picks Paulo & Bills. I had never dined at this location and decided it would be an opportunity to enjoy their menu and not have drive so far. I should have known it might not be good when we walked in at lunchtime and it was almost empty. I ordered a MEDIUM RARE steak and Bill’s salad . The steak was practically burned (see picture). The salad was drenched in balsamic vinegar and had no honey mustard at all (see picture). I couldn’t eat neither. When I spoke to the manager, she told me the cook was new and they’d had staffing issues. She did take the items off of our bill and offered to make me new items, but I didn’t have them make me new dishes because besides not being very happy at that point and just wanting to get out of there, I doubted the cook was going to magically gain the necessary skills to do better than he’d already done. Although, she did remove the items from my bill, it didn’t make up for having ruined our day. I would still visit the original GS, but not the Lenexa location. I almost feel compelled to take my daughter all the way to the Plaza GS to show her what the experience should have been and to get that horrible taste of shoe leather, dry steak and overpowering vinegar drenched salad out of my mind. I don’t like writing bad reviews, but the experience really bothered me and still does. When you’re planning on spending $100+ for lunch, you expect the food to be better than what we received.
Clarification: They replied and asked why if this happened a year ago why I waited to write my review. The answer is simple. Her upcoming birthday this year and the first thing I thought of was how disappointing her lunch was last year. Perhaps the reason you can’t find the comp is because they didn’t ring in the steak or the salad and properly adjust it off? That part isn’t something I can really comment about, just the food in the pictures. I added the receipt so that management could see that although I told the truth, rather than apologize, they insinuate that I’m a liar. I’m still angry about this and have...
Read moreOMG where do I start. I made reservations for my moms 70th birthday at 5pm on a Friday evening and Party of 6. I take my mom to a new restaurant every yr although I have been here before. Philip was our waiter and his customer service was top tier. So I apologize to YOU Phil for the 1 star review because it surely does not reflect your services, You sir were a 10. We enjoyed our food and service from Phil. So when we were done eating, we sat there and chatted like every other person at their table were doing. We were probably done eating about 6:30 So we had just started talking having a great time, When Christy,
