210 ICE CREAM — Restaurant in Leon Valley

210 Ice Cream is unique. This isn't your standard ice cream store - if you want that, both Baskin-Robbins and Dairy Queen are just down the street.

Speaking of the street, yes, this is on Bandera. There is a 210 Ice Cream sign on Evers. Maybe that was a previous location, I don't know, but that is incorrect. Google Maps is correct, this is on Bandera Road.

The ice cream options are severely limited, but they are quite colorful, as are the food options. You can order a frito pie hot dog, funnel cake, corn in a cup, takis (the snack that comes in a single-serving bag, like chips or cheetos do) and other options. You can get New York cheesecake, chocolate covered strawberries, agua frescas, nachos, fried pork rinds and more. Want something mundane like, say, mint ice cream or a chocolate peanut butter shake? You're out of luck.

This is a small store with six tables and two tiny, low windows to order through and receive food from, respectively.

The orders take a long time to be made. If you want fast - again, go to Dairy Queen or Baskin-Robbins. So be prepared to sit down and occupy yourself for some minutes. The finished dishes are carefully plated works of art, so there's that. This also means that transporting them is difficult without a messy disaster, so dining in is strongly preferable to take out.

On the other hand, dining in has its own problems. The music is way too loud. Seating is limited. There is no restroom. There are only paper towels available at the tables - which isn't enough when you or your children's hands get sticky from all the different substances here.

The corn in a cup is absolutely delicious, but with the cheese, salt (and maybe mayo?), it's quite rich and unhealthy. But then, proper nutrition isn't generally why people go to an ice cream store.

There's a concoction with mango-flavored shaved ice, topped with a colorful and carefully presented assortment of sour candies, some chili pepper, a slice of lime and... pickles. It's a... unique combination that I feel confident in saying will be a novelty for anyone coming here.

The fried oreo funnel cake is quite decadent. Six large fried oreos. A large scoop of ice cream. And a massive amount of dough. I wouldn't be surprised if it weighed more than a pound. I do NOT recommend taking on this sucker by yourself - and with melting ice cream soaking into the funnel cake, it isn't something that lends itself well to leftovers. Divide into multiple portions, maybe having three or four people tackle it.

All in all, I suspect the market segment of people that would come here on a regular basis to be quite slim (but what do I know). But it's definitely one of San Antonio's more unusual places to eat, so feel free to give it a try if you're looking for something novel. My suggestion? If you have children, bring moist towlettes, come and eat in, then when the kids need to use the bathroom quickly package up or throw away the leftovers and take off.

My recommendation to the restaurant: decide if you want to focus on take out or dine in. If you want to encourage people to take their food to go, think differently about how you can package the products to survive transport. If you want people to dine in, they really need to have a restroom. And either way, at least provide plenty of moist towelettes in the dining area. I'd also encourage expanding the selection of regular ice cream options - maybe double the ice cream flavors, which gives you many more options for cones, sundaes, shakes, etc.

I admire small businesses with creativity and chutzpah, so good luck to...

I LOVE IT!

Strawberry funnel cake is about $8 but PLENTY for two adults and includes LOTS of strawberries, a huge scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, chopped pecans, a drizzle of strawberry syrup, and a cherry on top for the finishing touch. Funnel cake was cooked perfectly, but make note that it takes about 20 minutes for the funnel cake to cook. Not a big deal, just make sure you are aware of this. Everything else came out quick.

Parking is a bit limited and getting in and out on Bandera can be a little tough yet manageable.

My ONLY complaint is it is VERY loud inside. They have a TV with the volume on and a DJ style speaker with LOUD music playing. VERY difficult to converse with the others you are with. I would recommend ordering your items to go and then enjoying them in your car like I noticed others doing as I was leaving.

Awesome variety of desserts. SOOOO many things to choose from here. Traditional ice cream dishes, plenty of other twists, and even local influences adorn here. I can imagine coming here every day for a year and still not sampling everything they have to offer.

Banana splits, (several varieties of) funnel cakes (strawberry, banana, chocolate, Oreo, etc.) Mangoades, lots of chamoy flavored drinks, raspas, ice-creams, etc.

Bottom line: you have me hooked 210!

Not complaints but just to let you know before you visit:

They do not appear to have a restroom.

Eating area can get crowded – I recommend eating in your car or outside if this...

Prices were great...don't tell them...the food was way too much (lots of food for the so little price.), please don't tell them. The Root Beer Float needed more RB...it was full of vanilla ice cream & whip cream, more than I expected for a small cup with a dome cover on top & fillef with whip cream and ice cream to the top with a cherry on top...$2.00.

The hot dog was filled with everything you would want on your dag...$2.00.

The Cucumber order with red stuff all over it & cut up like banana slices. Well the container was filled from the bottom to the top of a kinda to go clear containier...like three or more cucumbers with slices of limon & limes...a very large container...price was very low...

The strawberry hot funnel cake and way larger than the ones you buy at Fiesta and way half the price was just delicious as all get out...and it was filled with creamy soaked banana slices all over the cake...and so it was called a Strawberry & Banana Funnel cake which was in a large to go like containner...

Yes, I was very happy...we all three of us were banana, strawberry, dag, float and cucumber very happy...they got three locations and don't bring a lot of money...so many things to order and eat and so so little room in...
