The food is average for the price and the service is generally good.
Beware of the extra charges you will/may incur because of wishy washy or unclear “policies.” My husband and I asked if chips came with our meal and were initially told it did, so we allowed the chips and salsa to be served to us. Then, a few short minutes later, we were told that the chips and salsa were free with the purchase of a lunch plate, and we had ordered a breakfast plate… a few minutes later, we were told that we had ordered our food at 10:59am, and that chips and salsa were free after 11am with the purchase of a lunch plate. Confused and annoyed, my husband and I go to pay at the register and were then told the sign says “chips and salsa with the purchase of plateS after 11am,” in other words, MORE than one plate. The owner himself condescendingly pointed at the “S” on the end of plates and said “it was right above your heads” and that we just needed to read. Appalled by the disrespectful behavior, my husband stayed behind to express his concerns about the situation, and the owner, unfortunately, was not interested in having a civilized conversation about any of it. He was not interested in apologizing or taking any degree of accountability. Instead, he insulted us by saying “it’s because of you people who want free stuff that makes being a business owner hard.” My husband went back and forth with this man, and ultimately all I can say is the owner is not interested in bettering his business, serving customers, or even just being a decent human being. We left the establishment just appalled by how the whole situation played out, and how someone could be so nasty towards others.
We ultimately were not charged for the chips, however, we will not be returning to this establishment after seeing the true colors of the person behind the business.
My husband and I aren’t looking for any free rides, we just don’t feel it’s right to be tricked into paying an extra $5 for chips and salsa when the “policy” was very unclear. Menu says one thing, sign on the wall says another, server says something else… we felt as though we were misled, and the owner was not interested in taking responsibility for the confusion. He insisted we were...
Read moreGreat prices and great food. To sample, we ordered (all pictured) one barbacoa taco, one chicharrón (en salsa) taco, one chile relleno (they stuff them with picadillo, not cheese), and the chilaquiles plate. Everything was good. I particularly liked the tortillas, flour and corn, made in house, fresh. I couldn't stop eating the flour tortillas, they are awesome and reminded me of my mom's. I made a chile relleno taco with a flower tortilla and sweet Jesus was it good! They also kept our cups of coffee full and the coffee was fresh and not bitter. The waitress came over at least 3 times after bringing our food. Good service.
No wait time on Friday morning (Veteran's Day). The wait staff told us that since they're next to a High School, weekday lunch hours can get busy with high school students flocking to get chow at Rosita's to avoid cafeteria food and Michelle Obama's dietary rules. Weekday lunches may have a wait time on some days.
The atmosphere is classic Mexican, with piñatas and other motifs. Lots of windows (an entire window wall, side to side, floor to ceiling) bring lots of natural light and made our breakfast a great experience. Such large and wide windows makes it feel very outdoorsy, especially if you sit by the window wall.
The background music was very eclectic. Selena, Hombres G, Andrés Calamaro (flaca), Elefante, and other 80s and 90s pop/rock classics. Maybe they play more classic Tejano or Norteño but not while we were there. Some of the crowd seemed older and likely unfamiliar with this type of music but since I'm in my low 40s and grew up with it, I loved it.
The cleanliness was also spot on. Clean and orderly tables, upholstery seemed new (even though they're celebrating their 3rd year), and clean floors. Some tables have covers, others don't, but all were clean. No complaints there.
Overall, great experience with the food, prices, cleanliness,...
Read moreWorst experience. This was my first time coming here. My husband and I ordered our drinks and breakfast. We ordered queso which was just melted cheese that turned into a big clump of cheese. My eggs were way over done and the potatoes were undercooked. The refried beans still had the impression from the can they were scooped out of. Nothing had flavor not even salt. They never brought my tortillas that came with my plate. When the waitress finally came back to our table I asked to please take the food away and I just did not want to be charged for it. Felt like we were being punked it was so bad. Then The manager came out and asked me why i didn’t like her food. I explained to her the issue. She offered to get me something else and to refill my drink but I told her I was fine. Shortly after that we found a long hair in our basket of chips so we showed the manager and she just took the chips away. My husband had lost his appetite about that time so we waited for our check. After about 15 minutes one of the waitresses directed us to the register where the manager rang us up. Trying to Charge us for the chips that supposedly came with his meal. Then She proceeded to argue with us over the basket of chips then finally she took the chips off. Then she tried to charge us for the to go cups we were served that we clearly left at our table. There was a younger lady there that also proceeded to argue about the charges with us then she tells me I'm not talking to you I'm talking to your husband. Rude service. We paid over $18 for one plate of food (that he couldn’t eat). and 2 drinks. We even tipped $5. Just to be nice. Later that afternoon my husband had stomach issues. Please don’t waste your time money or health there. And if anything. The salsa tastes like watered down spaghetti sauce. Someone should call the health...
