I ordered a BLT this morning which is supposed to come with aioli. When the sandwich was served it was dry- no big deal. (Keep in mind there were about 12 customers in the whole place and 7 employees) I waited patiently while the clerk served others and when the clerk was available I informed him of the dry sandwich and asked politely for some sauce on the side. He informed the sandwich maker of my request and then walks back to me to inform that they are out of aioli- I say a cup of mayo is fine. At this point to sandwich person barks rudely and loudly that Ill have to wait for it. I implore the clerk that my sandwich is already cold and why do I have to wait for a simple cup of mayo? He says that the sandwich person can not stop to get me mayo and that it will be a bit. I ask why my sandwich which was made wrong is not a priority over sandwiches in line- when all I needed to be happy was a simple cup of mayo! Why could no one else provide mayo? The clerk seemed to fear the rude and clearly incompetent sandwich person which is sad in and of itself. I brought my soggy cold BLT back to the counter and left. To be fair - the clerk did offer me a refund but I was too flustered by the horrible service that I declined.
Martines has great pastries and cakes, but it will be a cold day in h$ll before I ever eat in that cafe again. Fire the sandwich lord and free your staff and customers from his bad attitude and subsequently his...
Read moreI cannot say enough about how special this place is to me personally. I came to know about this place through a former student of mine who had a cake from Martine's several years ago. I always remembered the cake(because it was so special!) and finally I had my very own special occasion for a very special friend who turned 70 to throw a surprise birthday party for her. I went to Martine's with such a short notice. I knew I couldn't have a cake completely customized, but the owner lady sat down with me and agreed to make a special cake(with what was readily available) for my dear friend. It was 2 tier cake decorated with sugar roses and baby breath and many more flowers. My friends couldn't believe that they were fake! The cake was tasty and texture was exactly what I would have liked to have. We also had brunch while picking up the cake and the chef generously offered a complimentary small cup of tomato soup for my sweet husband who ordered their kale grilled cheese sandwich. I ordered a waffle BLT which tasted delicious and not heavy at all. We loved their new place(apparently they moved to this location recently) and atmosphere. We would...
Read moreSweet secrets!!! This place is a Lexington gem, hidden treasure actually. Nestled in the downtown residential area. I would have never known to look for this place. Glad I found it. I started out with the roast beef sandwich and for the price I thought, Ok not ordering anything else, but as you can see I left with a sampling of many things. Still for $9 I would have like a bag of chips or drink with my sandwich.
Pros: Cute, bookstore/bakery vibes. Think young business types or older matured yet cultured vibes. Warm sandwiches hot off the grill 😋 caramelized onions and cheese!! Sweet assortment of baked goods and desserts 🍮. They use a quick torch for the Crème brûlée
Cons: All of the desserts are fairly cold to soft freeze. I can smell them baking sweets but all of mine were out of a fairly cold display case. (I understand the need to preserve goods but I want my Creme brûlée warm not just the top 😣) Still ate the entire thing before pulling off. Price wise cake slices are average at $4 but sandwiches need chips or soda to justify the price.
Conclusion: The atmosphere and quality justify a visit. Grab to-go because the sandwiches...
