3.5 starsrounding down, because I think reviewers are being way too kind. Dare I say sucked in by a little charm and some unusual features? Or one too many mimosas? Sorry Momma Rabbit, I had coffee. We just got back from a nice Sunday breakfast at Momma Rabbit's Nibbles and Sips. We got there 5 or 10 minutes after 10, and it was already full. We were seated immediately however, given the choice of "Family style" or at the bar. We chose family style with another couple being seated at the other end of the table shortly thereafter. My husband had the Eggs Benedict with a side of grits for an extra $2. I had the Dixie breakfast bowl with a croissant with lime curd included. Both breakfasts were very good. Very Good, not outstanding. The service was excellent-no complaints. The whole experience however, was below par. I would not mind visiting again sometime, but not for Sunday morning breakfast. MRN&S came to our attention by being featured in an MSN list of the most charming restaurant in every state. The decor is clean and almost seems minimal but does have some charming and whimsical elements. They have done what they could with a square small room. Most Charming in South Carolina? No. Maybe in the top 20 most charming restaurants in a strip mall with the patio practically in the parking lot. It features some overstuffed chairs and a small couch, and lots of tables very close together. Against the left side is a bar with maybe 6 or 7 chairs uncomfortably close together. It has the feel of a Beatrix Potter story book. Towel spotted at the bar said "Romaine calm and Carrot on." Cute. Loved the coffee cups, and the silverware is Dansk. Loved the aprons the waitresses wore. Here is what knocked off some points for me: 1) It was very very crowded and close. No feeling of privacy whatsoever. It was loud and bright. It might be OK if every table was not occupied and waitresses running around and people waiting to be seated. They need to expand to a larger space and add some alcoves, rooms, dividers, or booths. It looks like they will be able to choose to do so as it seems very successful. 2) You have to get up to get your own coffee. That's fine. But it is so crowded and only room for one person at a time at the cabinet. They have 3 different coffee dispensers, 1 decaf. They ran out of one of the regular coffees. This is not acceptable for breakfast, not 1/2 hour after they opened. 3) Yes they cater to a health conscious demographic. But no pink, blue or yellow stuff offered? They have honey sugar, cube sugar, cinnamon, and something else I don't remember. They do not have salt or pepper at the table. Sigh. Ok, I get it: HEALTHY. But don't tread on my personal choices. Not even Pepper. Why? Especially when you're serving sausage, hollandaise sauce, and cheese, hash browns and eggs in one healthful bowl. Another interesting thing is that they don't bring a bill to your table. You just get up, stand in line, and go to the register and they ask you where you sat. We are OK with that. I guess my husband was able to peruse the bill before he paid. I waited outside in the blazing South Carolina heat because I was in everyone's way just standing there. Call me when you have a bigger space to be...
Read moreThis is hands-down my favorite spot in Lexington! The atmosphere, the family, the food are all fantastic! I was an avid Momma Rabbits fan long before it even became Momma Rabbits! The food is consistently delicious and the sweetly southern stories of "Momma Rabbit" that you hear from the family members each time you visit make you feel like you're a part of their family. I take everyone I know here, and am starting to become (selfishly) disappointed that the Momma Rabbits secret is out!
I would like to take a moment to address the scathing reviews Cheryl McNair and Nicole Setree felt compelled to leave here for the world to read, as I feel both of them are not accurate depictions of this establishment and they also unfairly dilute this establishment's overall rating. I was present on the day to which Cheryl is referring. It has appropriately been dubbed "Black Wednesday" by the owners since. It was unlike anything I've ever seen. Packed to the gills, y'all! Not a table in sight, barely standing room only at the front, and a waiting list several guests long...all at NOON! I came with my mother and grandparents, and we waited a while for a table. Sure, that's a luxury people who are on an office lunch hour don't have, but we knew waiting was a likely possibility before we even selected the restaurant. Everyone was pleasant and sociable, and no one seemed to be bothered by the wait...that is until who ever was picking up Cheryl's to-go order arrived. I have never in my life seen someone so disrespectful and unprofessional. To walk into an establishment and raise your voice at a young professional as if you were his parent is appalling. To storm out of a restaurant making a commotion about how long you've waited and not having your food is classless. Wearing a shirt depicting your workplace as you throw such a tantrum is unprofessional. Cheryl, I'm assuming by reading your review that you were not the one who arrived to pick up the meal, and I can tell you as a 3rd party witness you should be embarrassed to jump to the defense of the person you sent to Momma Rabbits that day. They were an embarrassment to your department and to our community. Sure, I wasn't there when the actual order was called in, and I don't know how long your gopher waited for the food, but I can tell you that Will did everything he could to remedy the situation and that you could see genuine compassion in his face. The person who came to pick up the meal? She was flat out rude and unreasonable. Accidents happen and a little grace goes a long way. I hate that you're both writing off this establishment after one negative experience, mostly because you've made your one-sided experience public for the world to see. That's as far as my sorrow goes though, because, let's face it, that means less people on the waiting list during the lunch rush! Will, Sarah Grace, and family -- keep up the GREAT work! You have a true gem in this restaurant, and it's obvious that Momma Rabbit has blessed it in more ways than one! See you all...
Read moreOriginal: We have eaten here many times and it’s always been fine. However, the last time we went, the hostess was very rude to myself and my children. I waited until departing to just tell her that she was rude and she justified her rudeness. Nonetheless, our waitress was very sweet and gave excellent service. The food was good. The man at the checkout was also very nice. Very unfortunate that the rude host soiled our experience. Not worth spending $75 on lunch to be treated rudely.
Response to owners reply: I originally didn’t explain what happened. However, now that the owners has welcomed the story, I am happy to oblige. We went on Good Friday around 11:30AM. There Resturant was not crowded and there were just a few tables seated. My beautiful daughters (4 and 3) were SO excited to spend a Friday with their mom and go prepare for Easter. We were seated in the middle of the main room of the restaurant. My daughters went over and looked at the merchandise for sale. They looked at the beautiful cakes they had displayed in a case. They walked around an empty table. We used the restroom. We sat and played a fun game with their chocolate milk and apple juice cheers-ing together. Then, the nice ladies at the table next to us ASKED to speak to my daughters about their Easter dresses and plans. My daughters giddily showed the women their dresses and were speaking to them about Easter and the hostess came over to my daughters and told them they needed to sit down and stop disturbing others. My daughters were disturbing no one. The women had ASKED to speak to my daughters. No one ever spoke to me. As the owner admitted below, she sent the poor hostess to inappropriately address my children instead of the owner or hostess addressing me. My children were asked ONCE and then took their seats even though they were speaking to people who asked to speak to them. There was no “ample grace” given. There was no grace needed as my children did nothing wrong. And there was no need, nor is there ever a need, for the Momma Rabbits staff to ever “correct” anyone’s children, including mine.
The owners response below says it all. Glad they cleared up that the rudeness actually came from the owners themselves. Their response is factually inaccurate in several ways but there is no sense arguing with someone whose character is so clearly shown in their google review responses. Their camera footage also shows myself reading a book with my children at our table, applying lip gloss to each other, cheers-ing our drinks. She forgot to mention that.
I appreciate the offer to give my $75 back. Please let me know when I can pick it up.
Do not bring your family here. Clearly families are unwelcome and you will be...
