10/21/24 & 11/4/24 My husband and I got to go orders of the same dishes both times. Sahara is hands-down the best Mediterranean spot around! I ordered the lamb and beef shawarma, while my husband went with the chicken shawarma. Portions are super generous—enough for leftovers! The food is consistently fresh and flavorful, with a lively, bustling atmosphere that adds to the experience. I could honestly eat here every day. Don’t miss out on their incredible garlic sauce—it’s a must-try! It’s the best garlic sauce out there. 5/7/21 I came here for dinner and ordered their lunch special but for dinner. It's basically three times the size from the lunch menu. As always it's so soooooo delicious! THIS IS THE BEST MEDITERRANEAN RESTAURANT YOU HAVE RHE PRIVILEGE TO EXPERIENCE IN LEXINGTON!!! I can't express it enough how amazing this place is. I've come here for so many years and every single time it's still as good as the first time. The staff is friendly, and the food is fresh. I've been to a ton of various Mediterranean restaurants, and all fall short in comparison to this majestic spot. They do shut down for an entire month when they visit their country in Jordan. So get your fix before you'll be S.O.L. The food I ordered with the lamb and beef shawarma which is slices of beef, alongside a huge heaping portion of rice, and separate containers of hummus, and fresh Greek salad. Two pieces of pits bread and vampire proof garlic sauce. Which is the best part! I can't rave enough of this place, you'll just have to...
Read moreSahara is probably the worst Mediterranean/Middle Eastern place in Lexington. We've been disappointed every time we've gone in the past, but we've heard good things about it since it reopened so we gave it a shot while waiting for a doctors appointment today. We arrived during lunch but it wasn't very busy. We still had to wait 35 minutes for ONE sandwich and an order of falafel and got it COLD. We were late to our appointment and didn't even get to enjoy fresh hot food beforehand. It is easy to see that they have transferred to buffet-style assembly line food instead of preparing it fresh. If there was so much as a single competitor nearby we wouldn't have risked it, but it's not only the only Mediterranean place in the area, it's one of the only restaurants, especially open for lunch. The funniest thing is we easily could have waited to eat until after the appointment because the food would have been cold either way. My boyfriend could only get halfway through the sandwich anyway - about a third way through he said it started tasting like eating sand. My falafel was the worst I've encountered anywhere around town, it had the texture of overbaked cornbread, and was stale and hard but also uncooked on the inside. This place is super subpar and I'm not sure why people are so...
Read moreI hate having to write this review.
This used to be one of the best places in Lexington to get food. Not sure what has happened in recent months, but the service has gone down hill. While the food itself seems good, whoever is putting the meals together is poorly executing the instructions on the receipt. We ordered our usual today for carryout and once again it was missing items. This is the 4th time now in the last month or so they've gotten the order wrong. Something simple like asking for extra onions only to open the takeaway to find they've nixed the onions entirely. I wouldn't complain over it happening every so often, but now it's every single time we go something is amiss with the order. Missing ingredients does change the flavor profile of the meal. I shouldn't have to stand over them while they assemble it or open up the containers before I leave. Never had to before anyway. Has ownership changed? If you have new people on staff, perhaps retraining on how to make up orders may be needed. Because our receipts clearly state what we ordered and it is in contrast to what...
