Arriving before noon on a Wednesday morning, the nearly full, big parking lot assured us that good food drew crowds.
Unfortunately, the local lunch rush had apparently just ended, because lots of empty, dirty tables and booths and the current diners meant no available seats. Other folks stood beside dirty tables as they waited to be seated, so we picked a dirty booth and stood by it for nearly 10 minutes until someone cleaned the dirty dishes from the table and wiped it down.
As good as the barbecue, ultimately, and the huge helpings, some of which we took with us, the initial lack of hospitality made a lasting impression. With a new location and abundant parking, the local customers have loved this local business; but several more employees needed to be present, at least, to acknowledge waiting customers, apologize for a messy early lunch crowd’s departure , and also bus the tables quickly.
Had we not already detoured off I-85 and were hungry, we would not have waited to be seated and served. The entrance sign read to “Seat Yourselves,” but we did not expect to need to bus our own table when no one even greeted us as we stood in the middle of the dining room, awkwardly, as the servers obviously caught their breaths from an early lunch crowd, which had filled the dining room and the parking lot on that midweek morning. I tipped our server well, because she was obviously overworked as she efficiently took and delivered our meal, but she needed more help to reset tables!
Running a restaurant is about more than the food; it’s about hospitality. This one needs more and better...
Read moreOne of my favorite Lexington Style BBQ places, the curb service is great and they always give large portions of meat and sides. bbq slaw is good and their dip is a little heavy on the tomato ketchup compared to your traditional lexington dip like stameys or lex bbq 1 makes. I personally like their take on dip and it is better for fries to dip in because it gives u some tomato to hold onto unlike traditional dip which is simply a watery consistency and meant for to season pork. I have also gotten the pork skins box and it was a huge box full of skins and a small cup of hot dip. This is one of the best ways to enjoy pork skins, the lexington dip way with a hot cup of dip and nice crispy real pork skins you cant find that in a bag at the convenience store. Their hushpuppies are not house made and seem to be frozen hushpuppies. It helps make it possible to serve plates with a huge amount of hushpuppies and fries. I normally recommend other lexington places like bbq center and the previous places but Speedys is definitely a local favorite and loved for their big portions and fast and friendly service. Love the new building! Same great food. Will...
Read moreIt's like Mayberry and BBQ came together. The atmosphere was great, and there was a lot of decor to remind you that you are definitely in a BBQ restaurant. The service was exceptional and friendly. It was almost completely at capacity, but the service was super fast. They have that down to pat. We had the BBQ sandwich with slaw and fries. The sandwich had so much mest in it that half of it fell off, and we gad to scoop it up with our forks! It also comes with a side of NC BBQ sauce that I just ended up dipping my sandwich in. They are also smart and bring you a little pitcher of you tea so that the servers aren't tied up going back and forth refilling drinks! Smart, seeing how busy they were and how proficient the service was. It was a delicious lunch to satisfy us while traveling through Lexington. The only thing that may be a little frustrating is that with it being so busy, finding a good parking spot might be a little tricky. But, it's not bad and well worth it. The amount of business we saw coming in reassured us that this little spot is hopping and had to have good BBQ! Recommended to stop in, and we...
