I regret that it’s a requirement to put 1 star. Let me tell you about my horrible experience. I called before leaving and asked if they had cakes ready made and I can choose from, figured I’d try this place instead of going to Chinatown in Boston. My specific wording “I live an hour away, so do you have cakes ready made that I can choose from?” He said yes but we don’t open until 12:00pm, I say “perfect! I live an hour away anyways, so I’ll see you then”. So that’s at least 2 times I told him I live an hour away!!! He also mentioned, if I don’t see anything I like he can make something else for me for today. I get there and the lady was so busy chit chatting with someone I just waited and waited. When I finally got to talk to her she said she only had 1 cake. Let me tell you, this was the ugliest cake I’ve ever seen in my life, like my 6 year old daughter made using PlayDoh. And it must be old, it looked disgusting! So I said I called, told the guy I live an hour away and he said I can choose; where’s the other cakes. She rudely said that’s what we have. I said well he said he can make me something else, is there a book I can choose from? Her response “no, we need a few days”. Then continues to chit chat with her little buddy again. Not a care that I was lied to, drove an hour with my 3 children. Like were they trying to trap me to buying this old cake, thinking I was desperate? Because that is some old time used car salesman trick. Doesn’t work anymore buddy! I went to Chinatown, Bao Bao Bakery and bought the most beautiful cake I’ve ever seen in my life! You live and learn... I thought the name Sweet Thyme was fancy, avoid traffic to save time but wasted even more. You live and you learn. So learn from me and...
Read moreI agree with one of the reviews below. I used to like the place a lot and occasionally picked up a bag of bread on my way home. Until one day at the checkout i saw the bread was more expensive than before, so i commented “oh you guys increased the price” as i was paying. The lady immediately got super defensive and half-yelled at me “what do you expect, everything is more expensive now”. and i had to ask her to chill. then the male owner came out so i tried to lighten the mood by saying “i guess i was just surprised because the last time i bought it, he was here and it was still at xxx”. Then she said “yeah that was then and this is now. even if you ask him now, he won’t get you the price before”. And on my way out, she added another comment: “you came after 530 today and we close at 530”, as if i broke in and she was doing me a favor by selling me the bread… i walked in only because the door was open and there was no indication of they were...
Read moreThis bakery is called Taiwan Is Bakery, and it’s quite different from the overly sweet cakes you often find in the U.S. Personally, I really dislike those sugar-loaded American cakes, so I truly appreciate the more balanced flavors here. I occasionally order cakes from this place, and I also love their bread—especially their plain loaf bread, which is made without harmful additives. My stomach feels so much more comfortable eating it compared to regular commercial bread.
I even keep track of the days when the loaf bread is available so I can stop by and pick it up fresh. Of course, everyone has their own taste, but this is a Taiwanese bakery, and the cakes and bread here perfectly match the palate of many Taiwanese, Korean, and Chinese people.
What I also appreciate is that instead of using artificial mixes, they bake everything from scratch with natural ingredients. That’s why I trust this bakery and continue to buy their...
