This place was okay. Not terrible, not great. Service was pretty slow the day we were here. We started out at the bar area in the back while waiting on someone. Took a long time for us to get drinks even though there weren't many people out there. Bartender brought me the wrong wine so he had to re-make it.
When we got a table, the host started to seat us in the very front where it looked like his child and wife/girlfriend were hanging out by the host stand. He rethought it and asked if we would like to be seated elsewhere and I agreed. The seating was a little awkward as one of the two tables they pushed together was warped or bent so there was 1-2 dropoff between the tables on one end and flush on the other. The seats on the back were booth-like but the seats on the other side were tiny stools.
We made our menu selections and ordered. Seemed like we waited for a very long time. I had to ask the server to box up my daughters food so she could take it with her because she had to leave to be at the opera house on time for a rehearsal. They had someone bringing water around frequently but he neglected to fill up my daughters cup each time (even though she was the only one drinking water only) so I asked the server to bring her a larger cup.
The food was also just okay. Our burgers were overcooked to what we ordered, medium had no pink in it and medium rare had very little pink. Order less cooked than you normally would to get what you want! My daughter ate her grilled chicken later and I assume it was okay because she didn't say anything. The sausage rolls were probably the best part of the meal, the sauce was very good that was served with them.
Some of the drinks were pricy. My Savigunon Blanc was $9 which wasn't too bad but my boyfriend's old fashioned was $12 which seemed a little steep.
Overall, wasn't bad but wasn't...
Read moreLexington's BRAND NEW Irish gastropub - in the former Cheapside/Ruddy Duck - opened the last week of January and I went on day 1, just couldn't stay away. I'll say this: We're in for a treat. Paul, one of the partners, was on-hand that evening to meet all the patrons and he's got great big plans in store. Check it out! Also, if you're wondering why I included a picture of a bathroom, you've clearly never set foot in this establishment before - it's a VAST improvement, to say the least! Expanded review to follow when I get a chance to order food, but for the first time, the bar atmosphere was absolutely on point!
UPDATE: I’ve now been to H&J for brunch and it was excellent! Our trio ordered the Full Irish Breakfast, Shepherd’s Pie, and Egg & Cheese. I was so curious about the black and white pudding that I had to order a side of it, too. Unfortunately, it has almost no flavor (unlike goetta, which it’s often compared with but doesn’t hold a candle to) so I won’t be doing that again. For drinks we ordered a Bloody Mary, Gin Fizz, grapefruit Mimosa, and Guinness. We would have loved to linger but a) the drinks were pretty expensive for what they were and b) UK was playing at home and a lengthy line had formed. I can’t wait to go back for dinner and sample some...

They were very short staffed and my expectations were not high.
Thank goodness they proved me wrong!
I had the shepherds pie, it was supernatural. I am a bit a strange duck when it comes to shepherd pie, I believe they should be made with fresh ingredients... this place did not disappoint! It was fantastic!
Service was friendly and as swift as possible given the nation wide staffing issues.
Very clean and tidey... at least as clean an tidey as any pub can be.
I also had an appetizer, curry cheese fries... Believe me... I was hesitant, but I'm now thankful I gave them a try! I fully recommend them!
If you're in town, this place is definitely worth a stop. You will not be...
