In a quaint pocket outside of Boston, When Pigs Fly Bread is a sweet wholesome and delicious visit. We’ve been coming to this location for a few years and now and the bread and staff never fail to disappoint. There something about visiting a bakery where you can browse the isle on your own speed rather than having to make rushed decisions that feels so much more welcoming. I love how you can inspect and admire each of the seemingly dozens of varieties of fresh baked bread. You even get to (use a glove) and choose your own loaf! As you’re checking out the staff will give you the option if you want to slice your bread right there. Even if you can’t finish the whole loaf within a few days, all of their breads freeze well and are delicious toasted with butter. Our personal favorites are the blueberry lemonade (yes that’s the bread flavor), focaccia, and spicy pepper with olives.

Monday May 29, 2023@ 3pm. I, African American female walked in and I was not acknowledged like the non African American customer who walked in while I was making my purchase. I should not have made any purchase but I had already rang up my order. I will not return because the cashier ( young white female) ignored me an African American customer but treated someone else who was not African American with such enthusiasm and welcome. My ability to pay is just like anyone else's. Though there was a selection of bread, I will find another bakery who will treat me w respect and as an equal as other customers who walk in, regardless of the race or color of their skin!! My receipt says Cashier : "Manager"; if she is the manager, I do not expect this review to go anywhere. SMH.

In the heart of Lexington Center, When Pigs Fly has a large selection of fresh, yummy, artisan breads. You can choose to have your bread sliced and staff will put it through the machine. They also sell jams, oils, and WPF merchandise like hats and shirts. And don’t forget they have doughnuts on the weekends! They frequently have a promo of "Buy a $25 gift card, get a free loaf!". Each loaf is around $8-$9, so this is a great deal! There is a tasting station by the entrance of the door, where you can sample different kinds of bread with jam, self served. Staff is friendly. Store is super clean. No sit down tables, counter service only. Highly recommend you stop by if you’re in the Lexington area! Rancatore’s Ice Cream is right next door!

Update May 2023: If you frequent WPF, it's worth to purchase a $25 gift card during specific promotion periods (May-June and holiday season) because they give you a free loaf of bread with it. I also appreciate how they have Union Sq Donuts on Saturdays & Sundays, as now I do not have to drive to Somerville for them :) The donuts sell out quickly, though. Also, $3 sourdough Wednesdays are great! The staff are very kind.

The bread is kind of pricey, but I think it is worth it. Especially the chocolate bread! Other good breads: Peach Cobbler (May 2023 special bread). The orange cranberry bread is very very sweet, almost like a dessert.

Donut flavors that I would recommend: Vietnamese coffee, Brown butter hazelnut, Brown butter whiskey (all brioche donuts). I tried the lemon poppyseed cake donut and it was alright.

I would not recommend getting the muffins or cookies that they make (did not try scones) b/c they were stale. Despite this, I still think WPF is a great addition...
