UPDATE: I USED to like this place. The woman at the counter was always friendly when I used to come in person. I tried to stay a customer, I really did. But after the 4th bland meal that set my stomach off in a row, I can't order from here ever again anymore. I don't know what it is but their food sets my stomach off. Last time I ordered delivery, and the delivery driver REFUSED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR because I was with my dog who was on a leash. We were returning to the house from a walk but we didn't need to be there when he arrived as he was instructed to place it on the front doorstep for "contactless delivery". He instead called my phone multiple times and chose to wait in his car for 5 minutes. He refused to look for the house number which was clearly labeled outside the house. After spending around 50+ dollars, I practically had to beg him to release the food! I ended up just having him place it on the ground outside his door as he was just sitting there and I was getting annoyed. NEVER AGAIN! Whether it's the oil or spoiled food or something, the food just does NOT sit well with my partner and I. I really wanted to support an African/Black Owned small business but this place needs WAY better customer service and food quality. Sucks they're the only ones in the area. Guess I'll get takeout from Philly or NYC instead. I would not recommend this place anymore.
ORIGINAL: I come here and absolutely LOVE the food! It tastes authentic and the spices are on point! I don’t need to add salt or anything unlike most places I have tried. I came about 4 times in 3 weeks once I found this place.
I love that they have vegetarian options as I am VEGAN! Most West African places do not cater to us. The Jollof Rice is on point as well. I usually get the fufu with egusi, Jollof Rice with spinach, and some plantains. They have meat pies/patties as well that they give you with your meal but I have not tried any as they are not vegan. The portions are more than reasonable. I plan to bring others here as well.
I would however recommend that you CALL instead of use the Seamless app if you are making many specifications like I do. The people are friendly as well. I also wish they would use plastic containers as much as I don’t like plastic instead of styrofoam to package stews as the oils and soups constantly spill and make a mess on the way home.
Definitely recommend for some authentic west African food and plan to return...
Read moreSurprised to see how many other one star reviews were on here. I'm glad some people were actually able to get their food. Ordered some Egusi and some Fufu (Mind you its my first time wanting to try African food) And was immediately shocked upon entering to find that they were attempting to charge me $55 for a pre-paid meal that I already paid $30 over the phone for on credit card... I was greeted with stares and also scolded after telling them I can't afford to pay another $55 on top of the $30 I already did. Fearing for my life, I left the establishment as the African lady at the register area threatened to have someone come and make me pay if I wasn't willing to pay $80+ dollars for a ball of Fufu and some Egusi soup... I do believe this establishment may be racist, as I am white and they didn't seem to kindly to me ordering in the first place. I hate to see it, hate doesn't solve hate, and I wanted to be kind and take a taste of Jamaican/African food, however I would never generalize the entirety of the Jamaican or African community over this.
I simply recommend if you're looking for some cuisine of these cultures, you take your business elsewhere. The other one star reviews speak for themselves (many of them being from people with African heritage as well, so if anyone's opinion matters most,...
Read moreTerrible. I went in for the first and ONLY time. I ordered a rib platter. First they gave me grief about being able to substitute sides. I didn’t want rice or cabbage. I asked a simple question if I could not get either and just get another side. The cashier was not friendly in saying no. Then I said I don’t want any rice and instead just give me extra plantains and regular cabbage. She said ok. I get home and half the platter is full of cabbage. There was literally only half a handful of plantains and 2 ribs for $16. Not only was the customer service terrible, they didn’t get my order correct and the food was extremely average. I regret the whole ordeal. I should’ve walked out after the cashier insulted my hair. She didn’t directly insult it but she told me I should visit the shop next door to get my hair done. We were not talking about hair. I was just trying to order my food. I won’t be coming back and I urge you to support any other of the wonderful Caribbean and African restaurants in South Jersey. Heck, it would be worth a trip over the bridge to Philly for better food and...
