I have never felt compelled to write a restaurant review until today. We don’t live in UT and every time we are in town we make our annual Magelbys visit. Today was the most disappointing experience I have had at a restaurant First of all we have only been to the Magelbys in Provo but we were closer to this location so we decided to go here. It was a holiday so they had a sign posted that they were closing early at 1pm. We arrived about 11am. We ordered 2 omelettes, 1 pancake and 1 French toast order. It was busy. We sat at the last available table. We knew the wait would be longer than usual but after MORE THAN AN HOUR wait at our table an employee came to our table and said they ran out of pancakes and asked if we would be okay with all French toast. We were not going to leave at that point so we said okay. About 20 mins later our food came out. The omelettes looked terrible. They were small and almost looked like someone tried to scramble them and then folded it over. Maybe used 1 egg but not even large enough for a 2 egg omelette. The quarter cup of potatoes were very undercooked and crunchy. The French toast was also undercooked so it was soggy. None of us like confrontation but after waiting nearly an hour and a half and spending $50 plus dollars we felt we needed to say something. My husband brought the potatoes up and they said they would make him some new ones. We asked for more French toast since it’s bottomless and asked them if they could cook it more fully. They said they were out of syrup so…… We insisted and said we had more syrup at our table so they did end up bringing more French toast that was fully cooked this time. We left never getting the fully cooked potatoes. It was odd because there appeared to be 7-10 employees working yet based off of everything there didn’t seem to be any management or organization. Everyone near us also had unheard of wait times. Unfortunately we will not be back to this location but I felt it necessary to say something so hopefully there could be some big...
Read moreMagleby's will forever be our goto caterer. To be honest, I originally called another caterer (they're supposedly best of state). We'd recently moved into a new building and we wanted to host an open house with hors d'oeuvres and desserts for approximately 300 guests. I called this other caterer a few weeks in advance of our event. I spoke with the office manger I believe, she stated that they'd be happy to do it and assured me someone would call me to workout out the details. I only received one call. Never heard from them again even after I kept calling and emailing. When I did get the office manager, I was once again told that someone will call me back. No one ever called me back. It was four days before our event and I still had not heard from anyone. I started to panic, then I remembered about Magleby's. We'd recently hosted a fundraising event in June and Magleby's catered the event. Everyone raved about the food including myself. I gave them a call, and had the privilege of speaking with Madison. I provided her with the date (which wasn't a problem), my budget and details. Within 30 minutes we had a tentative menu in place, which also included a discount. The day of our event they took care of everything and the food was fantastic!!! Madison and the entire Magleby's team were great to work with. They even sent me a thank you note with a gift card. I was touched that they took the time to do both. They're a top notch organization that knows the meaning of great customer service and delicious food. In my book Magleby's is the true best of state. I highly recommend them for any event. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to...
Read moreI've eaten here many times over the years. Is that because the food is top shelf? My friend likes it, so I go to accommodate him on occasion.
The place always has people there, so they must be doing something right. I suspect people go here because it's tradition, which is the Utah County way of doing things. Plus they give you a free breadstick with every entree, and people sure love a "freebie" here in the land of coupon clipping. Burn on Utah County!
How's the menu? Over the years I've had the salads, the sandwiches, the french toast and the omelettes. I've eaten the pasta, the soup and the pancakes. The burgers, Doc's Truck Stop sandwich, and the catch of the day. The manager's special on occasion, too. Everything I ever ate was basically a C/C+, thus the three star review.
In other words, there's nothing offensive or bad, but there's nothing really amazing either -- with the exception of the chocolate cake. That's pretty much what you want chocolate cake to taste like. So nice job on the cake. I'd give that 4.5 stars.
Honestly, the entrees just feel like they've been around for 20 years. The locals must love it for the tried-and-true; maybe I am just tired of the same-old, same-old. If my friend never wanted to go back, I probably wouldn't. Not saying that to be mean. I just am looking for a more adventurous offering at this point I guess.
The service is reasonable but the interior of the restaurant feels about 15 years outdated and needs a refresh. Wall are chipped with paint, the wall decor is dusty, the floor looks a little grimy. I'm sure whatever happens, the local crowd will keep on coming for...
