Bohemian Pizza and Tacos — Restaurant in Litchfield

When we first arrived at Bohemian Pizza, I was immediately drawn in by the facade, and our party of 7 was very impressed by the unique and funky atmosphere. The owners clearly took their time in the decor, with cool aquariums and music posters all over the walls. Even the bathrooms have style, with beer kegs for urinals! There is an old timey arcade machine with “capitalism rules” scrawled on it, and even a jukebox. Our waitress was very peppy and attentive to our needs, even when we encountered problems, so I have no complaints about her sincerity and desire to do her job well.

Now for the food...We ordered three different pizzas, two specialty and one custom. We were mistakenly informed that it would take 6 minutes to make a Margherita pizza, so we assumed our pizzas would be out promptly, which was not the case. We waited almost 40 minutes for the three pizzas and when they came out the Margherita was so cold my Grandma sent it back. The other two pizzas were greasy but not too much so, but they were insanely crispy and burnt. They are also not aesthetically appealing, with toppings seemingly just thrown on top, if it were good pizza I wouldn’t have cared, but it tasted much like eating a cracker with canned tomato sauce on it. The waitress was kind enough to explain to us that they prebake all of their pizzas, so the crusts are super crispy. Unfortunately this method leads to very crunchy crust that tastes like frozen pizza that has been microwaved. For a casual pizza place, this quality is probably fine, but the waitress got our expectations up by telling us we were about to have some of the best pizza of our lives. About 15-20 minutes later the remade Margherita appeared, the waitress was very apologetic and explained they had waited for all the pizzas to be ready before serving, which was some sort of miscommunication on their part. At this point I would have given them 3 stars, maybe 4 for the cool vibe and awesome decorations. I then made the mistake of posting an honest but short review on Instagram stating that they had a cool, funky vibe and great service but that the pizza left something to be desired. I acknowledge that I should have just posted my review on Yelp to begin with, because I received a lot of flack from the business and employees who took offense at some of the hashtags I used. My review was not hurtful, and I did not realize the hashtags were something anyone even read. Bohemian Pizza jumped on me saying I should have had a burger, but come on it’s a pizza joint! If they can’t be proud of their pizzas they should switch to burgers. Even though I included #eatlocal they acted as though it was a personal attack on them, and not a comment on the fact that we got food that we thought was not very good. I support small businesses and restaurants all the time, if their product is good. I complimented their decor and their servers, but because I don’t like their pizza and don’t recommend it they felt compelled to attack me. I’m assuming they will try to bully me out of my opinion on Yelp as well. Upon entering the bar area last evening, the music, hustle and bustling of the bar was not what I had expected. Granted it was Saturday night. I had no idea the bar would be so lively. With this being said, I had asked a female bartender, whom had greeted me with kindness, if there was a quiet place to sit and have a glass of wine. With that, a male bartender directed me to go to the dining room and said to receive service there. Which I did. In fact, sat next to a huge fish tank. Which in turn was lovely to watch. I met a few ladies seated at the table next to me and we struck a conversation. Very friendly. I was served by a very nice waitress. Didn’t catch her name. The salad I had ordered came out improperly made- hey it happens. Essentially the order came out. I was told the dining room was closing and given to go containers. Ok- I get it. Yes, took the order to go.( snippy woman behind the host station handed me a bag. After mentioning the bus girl was reluctant to grab me a bag- had to wrap up my meal and grab a bag, myself-) I thought, let me have a tequila shot before getting back on the road. What a mistake. In sitting at the bar, the male bartender, whom later revealed himself as Jermaine, proceeded to grab bottles of tequila and slam them in front of me, yes, on the bar. I found the behavior aggressive. I don’t drink clear tequila and had asked for, gold. Being a bartender in my previous years, I know the difference between clear and gold. Also, what I like in the various options that might or might not be available. Certainly didn’t require a bottle slams in front of me with options. After seeing the bottles, I said I’m sorry, I’d rather have a chilled shot of Knob Creek. With that, Jermaine said, ‘you are rude and have to leave’. ‘You were rude when you came in and now have to go’. ‘Leave’ I was taken aback and shocked at this bartenders outburst. Not only did the customers hear his outburst- he then started dancing and giving me the owners information, so I could file a complaint. Guess this happens often with you Jermaine. I stood at the door, observing this bartenders conduct. Or the lack of appropriateness. Singing, dancing, mouthing off -he poured himself a shot of Espolon, did a cheers my way and drank the shot. Name calling was involved- not once or twice, three times he referred to me as, ‘ Karen’. He then instructed a patron to close the door as I was, ‘kicked out’. I was standing in disbelief beyond the door opening, outside. Thank Goodness the patron, a woman- came out and apologized for the undeniable mistreatment of the character behind the bar.Which by the way, not her responsibility. However, very gracious. Jermaine- your display and accusatory behavior was down right appalling. I entered Bohemian Pizza to unwind- relax. Let me advise you, you never know what another human being is going through. Perhaps step down off of your high horse and treat patrons with respect and dignity! It is doubtful I will return. What a shame as I travel through Litchfield every other day to care for two elderly parents. Shame on...

Used to have the best pizza, now it’s not even close. We have been here 5-6 times and loved the pizza, had a fluffy soft crust that was even better than Pepe’s. Unfortunately we raved about it and brought some family members with us last night and ordered 4 pizzas, nachos, 2 orders of tacos and calamari. The calamari came out and had maybe a dozen calamari and the rest was all peppers and Gorgonzola, I love the peppers, but the kids love the calamari which was scarce. Then the pizza came out and it was like they used saltine crackers for the crust, it was not the soft crust we love, but an over dried, thin crust that had no flavor and literally was like a saltine cracker for all 4 pizzas. Our family members we brought for their first time here said the pizza was horrible and said we were crazy spending $150 on this food. I completely agreed it was not like we had any other time coming here. I asked the waitress what changed and she said it was only her 4th day working and their was no managers to ask. She was awesome by the way, had a lot more tables to manage and was always there to check on us, she was amazing keeping up with as many customers as she had. stopped another waitress who had been there since April and asked her why it went from our best pizza to worst and she went to ask in the kitchen and came back and said nothing had changed. Unfortunately something sure did, it was like they forgot to put yeast in the dough, it was just dry, flaking and crumbly. Our family will not go back here again and hate to see it, but our favorite pizza place is no longer the same and we will no longer be regulars here. If we knew it was just a bad night for the cook and a 1 time thing we would consider it, but when you drop $150 on dinner and no one can tell you why it’s so bad this time then it’s not worth risking coming back for another horrible experience.
