I'm not rating the food at this location because I didn't buy food. Here's the story: my friend and I originally went to another location. She wanted to look for merch, since the other location was low, so we bought coffee at the other location (which was excellent) but came here to look at merch. They were also low on merch but I bought a cup. When I got to the register on 5/23/25 at around 9:30, the gal at the register decided to call me out for standing in the wrong spot in line. I was clearly standing off to the side she indicated to begin with, but the lady at the table next to where I was standing was getting annoyed because I would bump into her any time someone tried to walk past me. I felt in the way, so I moved to where no one else was standing, so that I wasn't in the way. There are no arrows on the floor or signs to indicate where to stand. The girl said "for future reference, the line starts OVER THERE -insert a condescending smile and tone here-. I let her know I felt like I was in the way and she continued to talk to me like I was five years old for the rest of the transaction. I nearly put the item I was purchasing back. And, later, having gone to Verve Coffee later...I recommend Verve to other tourists. Coffee was better, service was better, and I didn't leave with a bad memory and poor taste in my mouth after going out of my way to buy merch from them.
I have no photos. This location was the most cramped of all the Cat and Cloud locations. That, coupled with their poor service, I would recommend going to Verve, but if you must, go to any Cat and Cloud besides...
Read moreIf you need a spot to go work outdoors in the lovely Santa Cruz weather, and are a coffee fiend like yours truly, there's quite possibly no better place than Cat & Cloud's location on Portola.
Located at the corner of 36th and Portola, this coffee shop is nestled into a fairly small parcel of land/space — but boy, do they know how to best utilize it! There is so much outdoor seating in the lovely sun, as well as space in the converted garage and indoors for folks who want to work indoors. Additionally, I haven't even described the coffee + food offerings!
You cannot go wrong with just a plain drip coffee, but there are a lot of fancy drink options (caffeinated and not) that are available. Additionally, the shop has anywhere from 3-4 toast options, all of which are delicious, and (my favorite) MANY pastry options. Go get some vegan chocolate banana bread, a donut (C/O Dunlap's) or something savory. You cannot go wrong!
Lastly, you have to shout out the customer service. Everyone on this team — Leah, Alissa, Dusty, Diego, etc. — are all EXCELLENT at their jobs, and definitely make me smile every time I come by. Make sure not...
Read moreHow do I even begin?! I’ve wanted to visit Cat & Cloud since I started listening to their podcast two years ago (highly recommend btw) but it’s a bit of a struggle living in South Carolina. I FINALLY had the chance to stop in last week while visiting friends and safe to say it was the highlight of my trip.
I work in a third wave coffee shop and customer service is number one for us but seems hard to find most places. Let me tell you, they surpassed my expectations and even made me want to work on my customer service skills more! I felt like I could come into C&C anytime and I’d feel right at home. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time! I love a business that sticks to their aesthetic and mission statement
