First time here today. (Sept 1) It was quite busy. There was a line out the door. I'm surprised no one said Aloha and welcome.
3.5 ⭐️ Shave ice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cleanliness ⭐️⭐️
We placed our order at 730pm for 2 shave ice, the first shave ice came out at 739pm, the 2nd shave ice came out at 750pm. My husband finished his before i got mine. In that 11 minutes, 5 single shave ice from 5 different orders came out. 2 were from 2 orders placed before ours and 3 were from 3 orders placed after ours, and one family left. The 4 other families including us were still waiting.
Seems like the workers don't have work flow. Like each person is working on one shave ice at a time. Not one order at a time & it's taking too long. It looked like they were alternating on the shave ice machine. Each person should have a station, 1 taking orders, 2 shaving ice only, 2 adding flavors, 1 doing toppings and 1 handing orders out. They had about 7 working. And customers should go to counter to pick up. The workers shouldn't walk thru the crowd to hand one shave ice out, someone could be coughing. Maybe invest in a mic/speaker to call names.
It would be better to complete a single order at a time. And it will prob speed up the process from order placing to handing order to customer. Then families can eat together or leave together if taking to go.
Cleaniness: Tables were dirty, prob no time to clean because they were so busy making one shave ice at a time. Bathroom clean. The trash receptacles were full, overflowing and trash on the surrounding floor area. The floors near the tables were really sticky.
Shave ice was good. It's definitely the soft fluffy ice, I had a few crunchy ice pieces, but it was still good. The mochi was soft and chewy, it was perfect. The snow cap was on half of my shave ice, not the entire top. The flavors were great! Mine just didn't get to the bottom ice and I didn't stir it because the ice on the bottom was packed in and i didn't...
Read moreToday we stopped in to try some Hawaiian Shaved Ice at Ululani's. We've been looking forward to trying the shaved ice since they opened. We were SO disappounted!! First, the service- every question was met with eye rolling and sighs. Seriously??(there was one person in line behind us). Next, after we placed our order, and I went to pay with cash- I was informed that "Oh, (eyeroll) we don't accept cash- we only accept cards" (sigh, more eyerolls). I then asked, "what"? I don't see a sign anywhere..." 🤔 I was then told, "Oh, that would be OUTSIDE". I didn't have a card with me- so as I left, I looked around outside for the "No Cash" sign. I finally found it on the front glass window- BEHIND the cart that held the free water Igloo, cups, etc. I went back into the shop, walked to the very back and motioned for one of the (not busy) girls to come over so I could just let them know about the hidden sign. She shrugged and yelled "whaaaat?" across the store, I motioned again. She stomped over to me, and sighed loudly- again. I went on to explain about the hidden sign (thinking they might want to move the water Igloo). She rolled her eyes, turned to walk away, then looked over her shoulder, said "Whatever" and continued to walk off. No amount of shaved ice could make me want to come back and indure such rude and disrespectful service. NI te: On rating food, service, and an overall star score- I rated one star- because I didn't have the...
Read moreSo grateful this Maui institution is in the Bay area! We finally have legit, authentic shave ice in the Bay! The perfect consistency of ice combined with the best syrups, condensed milk and ice cream. They've brought the islands to us!
The shop is on the corner, same side as Panda Express when you enter the plaza. It's filled with plenty of aloha when you walk in. Lots of options to customize your shave ice with three syrups, and add ons like condensed or evaporated milk, different flavors of ice cream, azuki beans, Haupia cream and li hing. Lots of options but you only have to decide on two sizes: Keiki or the Ulu.
They also have cute merch like tees, totes and stickers. And they also carry some Aloha Collection pouches and bags.
Looks like their hours will be 12-8 daily and the official...
