The falafel is really, really good. The falafel itself was moist and was packed with really nice spices. I got mine in a pita with some tahini and veggies, and it all worked well. The pita seemed very fresh, but I'm not sure if they make them on premises or not. I don't care honestly, it was good.
I tried a potato knish, and it was pretty standard; nothing to write home about, but what you'd expect.
We also tried a spicy tuna roll which was also quite tasty. There is a really good variety of food to choose from and things look fresh and inviting. The prices are acceptable, and it was a nice side bonus to be able to get a package of kosher parmesan cheese which I haven't been able to find anywhere outside of Monsey. The atmosphere is a bit chaotic with families and kids running about, but honestly I'm glad to see that the restaurant is doing well on the patronage side of things.
The setup to actually order your food is about as inefficient as it could possibly be and really needs some work. I guess they were going for a cafeteria kind of ordering system, but it just doesn't work out well. Also, I kind of hated to see that there is $20 minimum to use a credit card; that just reeks of being cheap.
All in all though, the food is really great and theres a really nice variety of stuff. It's not a place you'll want to take a date to, but it's pretty much a...
Read moreThis unassuming spot has some pretty solid food with a pretty large amount of variety. There is definitely a homey vibe to it and I would say that this is probably the Middle Eastern version of soul food. For a kosher restaurant, the prices are fairly reasonable but then again, it is also a vegetarian restaurant (yes, fish is considering vegetarian in the Jewish religion).
The sushi was surprisingly great here, I tried the Fire Island roll which was basically spicy tuna on top of a California roll. The spicy tuna was actually spicy, love it when that happens!
I also tried the falafel sandwich with Israeli salad, tahini, and babaganoush. I didn't love the falafels here but the rest of the sandwich was great. The pizza was decent but nothing really out of the ordinary.
They also have a bunch of Israeli goods that you can take home. There's a freezer with frozen bourekas and I also saw some Elite chocolates behind...
Read moreI have been going to Jerusalem Restaurant for over 25 years. You know when you walk in the quality of the food is going to be the same, EVERY TIME! You know the workers are going to be friendly, courteous, and helpful, every time! They know their food, AND CAN NOT ONLY TELL YOU ABOUT EVERY ITEM, BUT WHAT WOULD GO BEST WITH WHAT.
I have also used Jerusalem many times for both small and large catering, and well as catering business luncheons. Everyone raves, and asks, "Where did this food come from?" With pride I tell them, "Jerusalem Restaurant in Livingston, NJ!"
