George Press Jewelers — Local services in Livingston

I’ve been going to George Press for a number of years, mostly for custom pieces to be made from inherited jewelry that was out of style or not my taste. I’ve also bought a number of items they sell that were designed and made by them, some from other designers they carry and also some items they were selling on consignment. The staff is always friendly and helpful and respectful of any budgetary concerns.

When I lost an expensive ring with a lot of sentimental value (a custom piece made at George Press), when I came into the store crying I was greeted with much sympathy and hugs (not many others seemed to understand how much that ring meant to me, but they did). They worked with my insurance company and I received a very quick settlement of 50% over the last appraised value (because I has replacement coverage—always insure with Chubb!). The staff at George Press worked with me for nearly a year to produce an even more stunning ring than I had before.

I would never go anywhere else and recommend them to anyone who will...

My daughter's boyfriend and her family have an expression not unfamiliar to anyone in Jersey- "I got a guy." So when I need shoes repaired, or a special place to eat whenever I'm near the city...."they got a guy." When my wife said again before the holidays, (as she has been saying for 10 years,) I wish my Hamilton watch worked, I called down to my pals in Jersey and said... I needed a guy. In Vermont where we live, watches are sent into the city, When I called repair places in Manhattan, many said we often send them to Jersey. Three days later George Press had the watch. From the first phone call I made with my inquiry until opening the box with our repaired family hierloom, the service, communication, and personal attention has been professional, warm and timely. George himself made a personal call to check in and let me know how things were progressing. Pretty unheard of, even in Vermont.

I will not hesitate to call on George Press again. it's nice to know...

More bad news (see my earlier review)...in 2016, my mother bought me a diamonds by the yard necklace from George Press for my birthday. The necklace was sent from the jeweler to my home so it was never in my mother's possession. I sold this necklace 2 weeks ago to a highly reputable diamond dealer AND my best friend (also a jeweler) was there to verify that nothing was amiss (because of the earlier issues). Well once again, I was given the bad news. The appraisal, done by George Press appraisers and signed off by George Press, shows the diamonds weighed 6 carats and F-G in color and SI1 in clarity. IT WAS NOT. The diamonds weighed half of that - 3 carats - and the color/clarity was 2 levels below the appraisal. If you choose to buy from this place, that is your choice. Personally, I would never set foot. If nothing else, please do consider getting an independent appraisal - not one from the...
