I hate to be mean but, I really feel like all of these reviews are fake? I don't know where all of the amazing flavors people talk about were at. They were not present during my visit. Anyway, to start off, I explained that it was my family's first time visiting but the employee didn't seem to care and wasn't very helpful at all. He seemed impatient and annoyed with me and the building of my bowl was so awkward when assembly style ordering should be easy. My husband felt the same way with his pita. At least the ordering of kids meals was straight forward - we just told them we wanted 2 chicken strip meals. Next, the food... wow. Again, I hate to be mean. Because I know there's different strokes for different folks... but eating this food made me feel like I was watching a black and white silent film. Kind of strange, really bland and boring. The chicken shawarma was weird and had a strange, rubbery texture to it? For a second, I thought I was accidently given mushrooms. It didn't taste like anything really. My husband didn't like the gyro meat, don't know how you mess up that. Everything is cold by the way so, nothing tastes very fresh. Even the red onions I put on my bowl had no bite, no flavor. I guess I should've doused the thing in jalapeños and hot sauce?? Maybe that could've redeemed my meal? My family normally loves hummus, but this hummus had a weird, off flavor to it. Both the traditional and spicy one. Plain hummus should've been a safe option - maybe it had gone bad? And my poor kids were troopers. They tried to clean their plates, they aren't picky kids. But the one meal there that should've been safe was disappointing, too. The photos online make the tenders look lightly breaded and crispy. Like they might have had a panko like crust. The tenders we got... 100% looked like they came from the Kroger next door in the frozen section. Big, heavy things with the thick, hard breading. Hard to chew. And the sweet potato fries, even though cooked fresh in front of me, were shriveled, hard and tough, like jerky. Worst sweet potato fries I've ever eaten, definitely unpleasant to eat, my gums were swelling by the end of my meal. I don't usually have that kind of issue with gum sensitivity. But those things were seriously tough and abrasive. Again, I hate to be mean and I'm not a picky person at all but, I really feel like these reviews were paid off and that makes me mad. I left this place feeling so let down and confused. I enjoy light and healthy meals and I KNOW healthy food can taste good, it doesn't have to feel like punishment. That's what this felt like to me. I kinda wish Gordon Ramsey would come to this place and rip them a new one, it was just so abysmal. I wish we would've drove half an hour to Sugar Loaf Mills, walked all the way to the food court and ordered Naf Naf instead. Same style of food but, it's sooooo much better. Fresh and healthy with tons of flavor. Then, I would've walked all the way down to Athens Kouzzina and gotten my poor husband and kids gyros. Also phenomenal and pretty healthy. I didn't finish but half of my bowl but felt heavy and weighed down for hours afterwards, like I had a brick in my stomach. And, a few hours later my husband was very sick to his stomach. So, NO I do not recommend this place at all. I should've known it was going to be bad when we walked in and there wasn't a single smell in that place. Didn't even smell like a restaurant or like anything had been cooked in it in...
Read morePretty much had the same experience as the reviewer named Ash a few reviews below. I hate to come down so harsh but I have to agree that all these stellar reviews seem fake. Maybe we came at a off time or something. Maybe their other dishes are decent.
Firstly, there was not a single customer in there and no smell either. Not like food or anything, so I'm sure all of the food had been cooked long before. We settled for this because my pregnant wife craves shawarma wraps from Jerusalem Bakery (which is phenomenal btw) and we couldn't make it there in time tonight.
Secondly, the food was all cold and in plastic containers, not being heated to keep fresh. Had lots of moisture on the cold chicken (and bacteria no doubt). Nothing like any other Mediterranean/Levantine food I've had. No real flavor in the meat. It was also $18 for one wrap and fries.
The ordering process was super awkward and nobody seemed to care that we were there. Again, we pretty much had the same experience as Ash, but without ordering kids menu items.
I seriously hate to be harsh, but my wife and I have both been to a wide variety of restaurants and counter serves for shawarma, Gyros, Pita wraps, etc. We've had the entire spectrum, even outside of the country. This truly was by far the worst one. Can't recommend at all.
However, I will say my wife was able to eat their sweet potato fries. So I'm sure...
Read moreThe quantity of the food was excellent and for the amount was fair priced except for the side of sweet potato fries (which is why we only did one). I noticed upon looking at my receipt that I was charged extra for the gyro meat. There is nothing on the menu that says there is an upcharge. My bowl was delicious! My daughter's pita not as much, but part of that is my fault for the hummus I told her to chose. However, she was "forced" to make her pita different than what was shown on the menu. As she tried to order a typical gyro, she was told that tzatziki could not be her hummus/ spread even though it is listed there on the menu. She "had" to pick a hummus that was actual hummus. She, also, "had" to pick a base. This was not as big of a problem because she was fine with having white rice. If a person cannot have the hummus that is listed under that part of the menu (or none at all) , then that needs to be stated at the start if ordering. A pita is listed on the menu as hummus/ spread, protein, toppings and dressings. Yet, the person who started the preparation of our order would not let my daughter start with the tzatziki even after I showed her where it was on the menu; nor would she let us go out of order based on how the set up is. While we may try the Hummus Republic again, I would like to suggest allowing the customer some leeway on how there food...
