BIRTHDAY MONTH=BIRTHDAY COUPONS=HAPPY RODNEY
Free entrée (up to $12.99) for email club members
Usually, I go to the nearest Acapulco in Downey to redeem my birthday reward, but seeing how this location is by Marina Pacifica in Long Beach, I thought why not drive that extra 2 miles in the opposite direction on the 605?
Walking in, I had the choice of sitting in the dining room or in the patio. Patio, of course! Sitting under the shade of an umbrella, enjoying a cool, sunny August day & watching the boats docked in the marina made for a relaxing, wonderful lunch. I didn't quite have my toes in the water or ass in the sand, but I quite enjoyed the soothing ocean breeze as I helped myself to complimentary chips & salsa.
Chile relleno fajitas (aka veggie fajitas)- Chile relleno doesn't always come battered? Who knew? Never having chile relleno "naked" before, I was surprised to find the huge chile with grill marks & unbattered. Hey, a nice change of pace, for once. The chile had a stuffing of delicious cheese, which could've been more liberally applied. The vegetable medley was a cornucopia of carrots, bell peppers, squash, zucchini, spinach, mushrooms, onions, green beans and other high fiber goodies. I'm expecting a 3 ft. long brown trout to greet me in the bathroom later tonight ;p The rice & beans served their purpose. The accompanying pico de gallo & guacamole helped spruce up the flavor profile. The chile relleno fajita plate was quite filling, made all the more pleasurable by consuming it outdoors.
Acapulco has various specials going on, depending upon the time & day of the week. Such as-
$2 Margarita Mondays $9.99 Endless Enchilada Thursdays Happy Hour 50% off appetizers
Service was good. Although my order seemed to take a little longer than what I was expecting, it gave me an excuse to just chill and enjoy our SoCal weather just that much more. I was told soda water w/ lime was no charge, but I was billed for it later. I didn't complain, as it was a few bucks and I was helping myself to a free meal.
Seating is via the main dining room, the cantina upstairs &, of course, the patio. Needless to say, I'd choose the patio. Parking is a private lot, shared by Ralph's, Tantalum & other businesses. Acapulco is located on the right of Tantalum.
Another birthday month rewards bites the dust! No way I'm going to the Acapulco in Downey anymore, as the Marina Pacifica location has the same menu, but an exponentially greater location. My mind was at ease, as I enjoyed a simple lunch, sitting in the shade, the breeze giving me natural air conditioning. Acapulco's Happy Hour & $2 Margarita Mondays has me itching to come visit again. Plus, it seems like a good spot for date night, without having to break the bank.

Read moreThe food was good. We were there bcs my son had turned 18 and he didn't want to really do anything big at all. He just wanted us to do something SIMPLE & CHILL.
When he was a child he loved this place, and since they tore down the one closest to our house we stopped going. With it being OVER 10 yrs since he'd give here I thought this would be great.
Initially I RSVP for outdoor seating but it was TOO cold so we sat inside. It was still all good. We ate, shot the $h!+ and laughed. He remembered the tortilla soup once he tasted it again and fried ice cream from a child so that was a happy memory.
My son stopped eating pork about a year ago so we had a little hiccup with the food. He's about two slice in to his Mexican pizza and stopped and said WAIT IS THIS CHORRIZO? I looked at it, took a smell test and said UUUHHHHH YEAH I THINK SO. I took a bite and sure enough it WAS. We informed our server and she APOLOGIZED. I stopped her RIGHT there and let her know IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. YOU DIDN'T KNOW HE DOESN'T EAT PORK. THAT WAS ON US AND A LESSON TO MY SON". So we both learned TO CHECK FIRST JUST LIKE WE DOES WITH SHELLFISH bcs he's allergic. Now he knows when he's out ASK if the items or foods he wants contain pork. Out server was the SWEETEST she got him once w/o meat and it was STILL really good and fresh. That's going to be our HAVE TO HAVE when we go here again
For dessert they sang him their song and he was the happiest. My sons VEEEEEEEERY chilled and laid-back and doesn't care for EXTRAS, OVER THE TOP, EXCESS ATTENTION so things like being serenaded has NEVER been his thing and I knew not to ask anyplace to do that for him out of respect. But this day I said FORGET THAT, HE'S GETTING THE BIRTHDAY SONG lol :)) When they came out placed his birthday flan on the table lit with a candle he SMILED the biggest smile. I was looking for his SERIOUS FACE but he was all smiles. Thank you staff that was awesome.
We'll definitely be heading back soon. If the drive wasn't almost an hour due to the fwy we HAVE to take to get there we would go often. Since we went all I've been thinking about was their Mexican pizza, tortilla soup, salsa/chips and taquitos
Read moreWent to Acapulco for the first time and the service was terrible. This restaurant customer service was not great at all. Went on Saturday with my family. The waitress that we had did not follow up with our table to see if we needed anything through out our service time. It took some time for us to get our drinks. And when our drinks was brought to our table, the waitress told us that the restaurant may be out of straws. Our drinks sat on the table while the ice was melting the soda down. While the staff was looking for straw in their storage area. We had to go to our car to get our own straws to use at this restaurant. This does not make any sense when the company charge the customers additional surcharge fee and they are out of supplies. We ordered appetizers and they came out over cook, dry and the chicken was burnt. Our other food that we order was not that great either. We made several attempts to get a staff member to help us out because our waitress went missing for a while. I tried to get another staff member to help us at our table. The guy look at me and ignore my hand gesture and walk the other way . My boyfriend had to get up and go get a staff member so that we can get some service. I can not believe how many staff members walk pass our table and nobody never ask us did we need anything. What made it worst is to see the other customers getting service by their waitress through out their service time. But our waitress had to be locate by another staff member. This experience was terrible and the customer service was not all there. People have forgotten what good food and great customer service is all about. People have to remember that your customer is what keeps your business doors open. This was my first and last time going to Acapulco. Another unsatisfied customers. The manager need to provide more training to have better customer service/ food and all staff should acknowledge customer to make sure they are good doing their service time. But at the end of the day another customer this company lost. Peace out Acapulco with your terrible customer service. No...
