Review for Ancestros by Wood
I’ve been visiting Ancestros since their soft opening on September 17, 2024, and I feel convicted for not sharing my experience sooner. This restaurant isn’t just a place to eat—it’s an experience that embodies the richness of traditional Mexican cuisine while offering something uniquely their own.
From the moment you walk in, the warmth of the staff, the inviting atmosphere, and the care in every detail set Ancestros apart from countless other Mexican spots in Long Beach. But let’s talk about the star of the show: the food.
The Flavors: The flavors here are consistent, bold, and absolutely unforgettable. My personal favorites are the queso birria tacos, the appetizer birria quesadillas, and the shrimp quesadillas.
Queso Birria Tacos: Every bite feels like a celebration. The tender, perfectly seasoned birria is complemented by the gooey melted cheese, all wrapped in tortillas that are crisped to golden perfection.
Birria Quesadillas: These aren’t your average quesadillas. They’re handcrafted masterpieces—light, flaky, and golden on the outside, stuffed with rich, flavorful birria and melty cheese that oozes with every bite.
Shrimp Quesadillas: These redefine what a shrimp quesadilla should be. The shrimp are cooked to perfection—plump, juicy, and seasoned with just the right blend of spices, lime, and cilantro. Every bite bursts with a balance of zest and richness, and they don’t skimp on the shrimp, ensuring you get a taste in every bite.
Micheladas: Now let’s talk about the Micheladas. Whether you pair it with a Modelo, Pacifico, or your favorite beer, the mix is perfection. The tangy, slightly spicy, and savory flavors are balanced so well that it elevates any beer to the next level. It’s the ultimate refresher that pairs beautifully with everything on the menu.
Consistency & Quality: One of the reasons I keep coming back is the consistency. Every visit feels like the first time—everything, from the flavors to the presentation, is flawless. Ancestros doesn’t just serve food; they serve passion and tradition on a plate.
If you’re looking for a dining experience that delivers on every level—flavor, service, and quality—Ancestros is the place to be. Long Beach may be known for its traditional Mexican spots, but Ancestros offers something so unique, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve discovered a hidden gem.
Do yourself a favor: try it. Bring friends, bring family, and don’t forget to order my favorites. You’ll thank me later.
P.S. I hope my photos do justice to the magic that is Ancestros. But trust me, the real justice is in experiencing...
Read moreNew spot in LB and it did not disappoint. I ordered a bacon breakfast burrito over the phone. Excellent service from the start. I asked for whole beans on my burrito, I received a call back and was made aware that the whole beans weren’t ready yet, so I accepted the refried beans. Parking was easy that early in the day. I arrived and was greeted with several smiles. I paid for my meal and mentioned that they should put the menu on Google. My meal and was brought to me a few minutes later. I opened it up and was pleasantly surprised with size of my bacon breakfast burrito and the chili, salsa, and chips it came with. I took the first bite and knew I’d found my new breakfast burrito spot!
10/10, the beans were so tasty, as well as the rice, fluffy eggs (they were cooked perfectly, no hard parts), not too much cheese, the bacon was smoky and not salty and it was cooked perfectly not super crunchy but meaty, and it had nice soft potatoes. Honestly I don’t think I can eat any other type of breakfast burrito as this one was so clean, not greasy, not oily, not salty. I can’t stress enough that it didn’t weight me down or make me feel yuck in anyway. I really hope it’s the same on my next visit and that the chef doesn’t ever lose their oomph!
And they also posted the menu on Google today! You all should definitely give this place a shot. We’re going to for dinner later this week! I can’t wait to get one of those pretty...
Read moreI love food ! This was our first time trying it and I would give it 4/10 . First of all we were seated directly in front of the bathrooms like the smell that lingered through the door was nasty . We really couldn’t enjoy it because you can just smell it as soon as we got seated . The lady offered to open door and we said no until we later realized why . We asked to if we could move and she said no because no table was available which we understand but when she said if we ain’t eating she must sit other people even though we had already ordered our drinks and was about to receive them . We changed our mind opened the door and it was better . It took about 45 mins to receive our food and to my the torta was not it the bread was hard and the sauce was not it I feel like this is not authentic Mexican food .. the mimosa drinks had little to nothing in it I should of walked out tripping 😂 had 3 btw . And also look and review receipt they add their own tip . My original receipt is different than my receipt I received after I paid for my meals .. idk the food wasn’t worth it in my opinion chicken fajita was not it . I will...
