Have you ever just walked into a store and got weird vibes? Well that’s how I felt walking into a predominantly white store where it felt very uncomfortable and unwelcoming and the staff there were very rude and hostile towards me when I would ask them questions about an item I was about to purchase. I think the employees are racist too. I’d never spend another dollar in the store even if it was the last music store in the world haha which Lowkey it is thanks to online business like Amazon they put small business they don’t care about their customers out of business. But I’m sure they don’t care because I’m just one customer and they care more about money than they care about showing respect and courtesy to their customers. I spent the over $300 in this store and they wouldn’t even give me a discount on a vinyl that was way cheaper online. Welp it’s all good because they just lost a customer because I’m just going to give my money to Amazon. Then the cashier wants to throw the you should support a small business lmfao. What does that got to do with me? They don’t care about the customer so why should I care about a "small business". The customer is the one supporting the small business and you disrespect them with rude comments. They don’t care about me or my business. And if you think for a second they care about you then think again cause they don’t even care...
Read moreExtremely disappointed and frankly disgusted by the shady practices at Fingerprints.
I came in shortly after Record Store Day to pick up a record I had reserved. While at the counter, I noticed a copy of the Wicked RSD exclusive vinyl sitting there in full view. I’d been hunting that release, so my partner politely asked about it.
The cashier quickly shut us down and claimed it wasn’t for sale. He said the store received four copies: sold two, raffled one, and that the final one—again, sitting openly on the counter—wasn’t available.
Then came the kicker: he asked what the record was going for online and looked it up on Discogs in front of us. That’s when the situation went from disappointing to blatantly unethical.
Gatekeeping sought-after RSD releases, flaunting them in plain view, and checking their resale value in front of paying customers isn’t just unprofessional, it’s exploitative. It completely goes against the values Record Store Day is supposed to stand for, not price-watching and hoarding exclusives for backdoor deals or personal profit. This store clearly puts hype and resale value above fairness and customer respect. I won’t be returning and I’d advise any serious collector to...
Read moreFingerprints is a large music shop on 4th street in Downtown Long Beach. It is snugged in a building with Berlin Bistro, and mostly consists of new and used CD's, LP's and movies.
This store has a great selection, there are plenty of record stores in the area to choose from, but if you are looking for a new release this is the place to go. They also have a plethora of bargain bins for both LP's and CD's which is where I do most of my digging. There is a nice level of quality control, even the records I pick up for a buck are still in decent shape and quite playable.
In addition to all your standard music offerings, you can also browse through some books in the back corner. The shop also has its share of trinkets and music related goodies, such as buttons and stickers. The staff is always very friendly, and the shop is spacious so you hardly find yourself in other peoples business (always a problem in smaller record shops!).
So if you are a music fan, take a stop down to Fingerprints on 4th. Take a swing into the bistro next door as well and treat yourself to a coffee or light snack, then pop across the street to the new parklet and...
