I came here late on a Monday evening, and they were out of a few menu items: this to me spells success as a business, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to choose to dine here! The restaurant was also playing music videos on their one TV, and I’m a total sucker for music videos. I think it’s a much better choice as opposed to, say, sports, or a reality show.
Miso soup is always a go to. You gotta have it if you’re getting sushi. And this was absolutely wonderful, flavorful miso. It had nice big chunks of silky tofu, which was, of course, divine.
I asked the waiter to just tell the chef to make two rolls of whatever they wanted, since they were out of tuna and a lot of the menu had tuna on it.
Up first was the Snow White roll. It was light, tangy, and a little bit spicy. It’s on the more unique side as far as rolls that I’ve had goes. I wish I kept the menu with me so I’d know exactly what was in it, but it seemed to have some peppers in the middle and that was a very pleasant surprise!
I was also surprised with the next roll that came out: it wasn’t even on the menu, and was a brand new roll! It’s called OMG… and OMG, is it amazing!! It’s a shrimp tempura roll with delicious sauce on too and some crunchies. This one is definitely on the more savory side! It also packs a punch in terms of spicy, which I personally love. My server later told me that this roll was their Thai/Japanese fusion roll, which definitely explains its unique flavor. I can’t recommend it enough.
All in all, I had an absolutely wonderful experience. I learned the hard way that it’s near impossible to find parking in Long Beach, but I would brave it again to dine here...
Read moreFirst. The Miso Soup is tasty, and a good starter. Second. The Inari Sushi is really good especially after the Miso Soup (mainly, to me, because of the seaweed which I like complementary to Miso Soup as I'm eating it). I like the balance of sweetness over savoriness. There is a hint of a really good sauce which goes very well with the Inari Sushi. Third. The Jungle Roll is soooooooooo tasty especially with onions from the grill. The Jalapeños offer the right amount of savoriness though the sauce is like a sweet vinaigrette. Overall, the meal is extremely filling. The chef(s) does/do not disclose the ingredients of any of the sauces. I don't think any of the meals require Ginger or Wasabi (as each tastes so good without though I like dipping The Jungle Rolls in the soy sauce). To the staff working from 8:15 PM to close on 9/25/2021, thank you for the good cooking, and customer service. I'm really glad to have a go to Vegan Sushi spot. Read moreLOVE BLUE BIRD!!!! The owner is amazing, his culinary creativity really shines through with his Thai Sushi fusion options like the Vegan Curry Shrimp roll (my favorite). Everything is SO good here. The service is excellent. We love sitting out front in the evening for dinner and enjoying our great neighborhood. The food is always fresh and made to order. As a vegetarian, I am so impressed with the vegan options here and always feel very safe ordering here. I have never been served fish incorrectly. I am trying to work my way through all the vegan options, but my absolute favorites to order are: seaweed salad (duh), crispy rice avocado, curry popcorn shrimp roll, red dragon roll. on a chilly evening the miso soup and green tea make all the difference. Ask Jon to recommend something, he is awesome. Love this place and love walking over, we bring friends here too and everyone agrees it is...
