My first experience at Good Time was memorable to say the least. I had high expectations for this cafe since following them on social media for a time. I traveled from Santa Ana on the bus just to make this much anticipated visit. I came in and ordered a Strawberry Basil Matcha, the cashier seemed to be a teensy bit impatient after I asked if there was coconut milk and they pointed to the place on the menu where the milks were listed and told me there were just those options. As it’s my first time, I was unaware but was made aware — cool. I let it go but honestly deep down I really didn’t appreciate the sense of irritation I got from them. Even when I asked if the bathroom was down a hall, a barista answered a little like it was a dumb question, it probably was, I was just confirming because it looked a little obscure and again, it’s my first time. But I did see the sign after so — I probably should have looked first, my fault. After, I got my drink and sat down. A little while later I spilled my matcha all over me and the floor. So embarrassing but I did not blame Good Time for it. Simple mistake. I had to ask for a replacement and it seemed like no big deal. I’m glad it wasn’t. I noticed the music and there was a lot of hip hop playing, songs I love as a black woman. But I looked around and happened to notice there were no black community in the space at the time. I appreciated the choice of song — though I can’t lie, it did make me feel uncomfortable hearing the n-word so many times in an establishment like this. I wish the clean versions were playing. I can’t lie and say that I did see this type of uncomfortability coming, when I saw the website and it said “Join the Good Time Cult” language while having a majority white community displayed on their website and social media platforms. Kinda gave me a funny feeling lol but I still wanted to try anyway. I’ve navigated spaces like these before and can’t say it’s the first time I felt this way. I can’t hold Good Time accountable for too much other than the explicit music choices, (they changed the music after a while, I think they noticed the choices were a little explicit and enjoyed the music that played after) but for any other black community member looking to frequent this space, just know that, you may need to use a little extra discernment when approaching. I got help by a couple of clients of the cafe when I spilled my drink (really appreciate them) but I happened to notice a white woman giving me the side eye as I was cleaning up. Makes me feel like I’m not as welcome or not made to fit into this space like initially thought. (Anyone know of a place like this that is a little more diverse? Comment below! I know 88Keys is a little smaller but a lot more friendly! IYKYK) Matcha was a 3.5/5 considering the matcha from Holo Coffee was truly amazing and honestly, did get the same vibe from them just a more Asian space. Service was the same, 3/5, so so. I hoped that I would feel more welcome like the platforms kinda made me feel with Jazz Nights and Community events being advertised, but it was a little more detached than expected. I just like a little more family vibe and hey, I don’t really think it’s personal.. hopefully. Haven’t tried the actual food, so I can’t rate that. I am happy that everyone else seems to enjoy this place but couldn’t really entirely say the same for myself 😓 Oh, but the bathroom is nice and large and clean 🙏🏽 I’m not sure if I’ll be back tbh and I really wanted to visit the events. Just wanted to be honest because I was looking forward to coming and in case anyone else like me...
Read moreIf I could give this local coffee shop 10 stars I would! Newest local to the Long Beach area, and we discovered GoodTime as our spot. We were blown away by the set up, menu, and overall energy of this place.
The menu is amazing! Don’t sleep on their breakfast burrito - we get this weekly since I work from home. The coffee and specialty drinks are truly what sets this place apart. From their Strawberry Basil Matcha to their Lavender Lattes, every single drink I’ve purchased from them, was enjoyed with love!
Service is consistent and super friendly. Always good for a “how’s your day going” or “whatcha up to today”. (Which I personally love)
Atmosphere? 10/10. Take a plant or simply enjoy working around them, and whatever music they’re playing throughout really enhances your experience!⭐️
Be sure to follow them on their socials as well, they do a lot of community...
Read moreThis place deserves 6 stars based on vibes alone! From coffee (of course) to beer, wine, and plants, they've got all your needs covered. Very spacious with indoor and outdoor seating, great music, and wonderful service. I've only been once so far - I ordered the Paloma-ish (espresso grapefruit tonic) and the breakfast burrito with chorizo. The drink I give a 10/10, it was sooo, but the burrito was a bit potato heavy. Good flavor, including the chorizo, so I'm willing to give their other food items a try. But back to the vibes! Very community oriented as they had flyers posted for various resources and events. I'm obsessed with the plant shop in the corner even though I can't keep anything alive. I absolutely can't wait to come back for an adult beverage and of course try their...
