I had ordered catered food for my 80th birthday and as a Puerto Rican who was raised up by a mother who was a very good cook of Puerto Rican cuisine, La Casa De Iris leaves a lot to be desired. The catered food I ordered was fried pork chunks(carne frita) and rice with pigeon peas (arroz con gandules). I went to pick up food but did not check food, paid and left. I had bragged to my invitees that I was going to have some Puerto Rican food, to my dismay and disappointment food particularly the fried pork was over cooked dry almost to the point of burned. Meat not moist but hard. The rice with pigeon peas had a lousy taste and dry. My guest and family members asked me that where did I get this food because they did not like it. Hardly anyone ate of it to the point that I had to throw it away. Catered food had cost me over $200 that amount feeds fifteen to twenty people but no one ate it. It was so bad I was embarrassed. It will be the last time I shall buy any food there. Place is small with no rest rooms plus parking is atrocious. Yo park u have to park across the street on abandoned building parking lot. I believe parking lot doesn't belong to the establishment but not sure. I was hugely disappointed. So if u are looking for authentic Puerto Rican food this IS...
Read moreThere is no bathroom but there are tables to sit at, which struck me as weird for a restaurant. Our table ordered a couple of mofongos (large portion), two pasteles, a papa rellena, ground beef empanadas and an order of tostones. The tostones were really good! However, the mofongos were over seasoned and the rest of the food was under seasoned. The chicken pastel was edible but too wet. The pork pastel was not edible. The pork tasted rancid. The papa rellena was too soft - it fell apart when we cut into it. I will say the dough for the empanada was great but the filling left much to be desired. I’ll add that I’m Puerto Rican and grew up in Chicago where there are more options. I guess the search for good Puerto Rican food in California continues. Of note, parking is difficult near the location. You’re going to have...
Read moreI’m Puerto Rican and had high hopes for this place. Just had the regular number 6 the meat was dry, flavor was meh, only came with white steamed rice which sucks. The picture on the menu is misleading cause you think your gonna get the Puerto Rican rice with gandules, until they say nope you gotta order the combo to get the Puerto Rican rice, plantains, and salad. Plus the Puerto Rican Rice lacked the flavor of the the Island. There’s another Puerto Rican restaurant called Mofongos in North Hollywood that puts this place to shame. They are still number 1 in LA County. If the rest of the food is like the one I had today. They’re not gonna make it. Also, it’s only street parking and the dining area is small, no waiting area for to go orders without bothering the people dining in. Sorry...
