Just ate here the other night. It was my second time ordering the tofu avocado bowl. That bowl is sooo yummy! I can't believe I've been here twice already and still haven't tried the ramen. All the more reason to come back and try again 😅
I first visited a few months ago with a friend, and our server Ida recommended the tofu avocado bowl. I ordered the small bowl and my friend and I split a sake, some buns (I got pork and he got the vegan one), and an order of the spicy garlic edamame. I wanted only garlicky without the spice, but they don't do that here. Hopefully they will someday because while the spicy was good, it was a little too much for me to handle.
I ended up regretting only getting a small bowl last time, so I ordered the large bowl a couple nights ago along with an order of their spicy tuna sashimi. My mom and my daughter both liked it. It's such a flavorful bowl. The rice nicely absorbs whatever marinade or dressing they use and the seaweed salad. I believe Ida when she said she gets this for lunch every time she's at work. She was our server again this time, which was nice because she has such a friendly personality. This time I also added a bit of their chili oil to the bowl and it was great!
The sashimi came with 4 pieces, and while it was fresh and flavorful (especially that crispy thin-sliced garlic!) each piece felt like a bad cut. There was that stringy fiber in each bite which made it difficult to bite it in half vs sticking a whole piece in my mouth. There are worst things, but it was enough to annoy me a bit.
Will report back when I finally try their ramen. Hopefully I come back in time to try their seasonal spicy curry ramen that Ida also...
Read moreWe’ve been going here for the past year or so, it being one of the few late night eateries on 2nd street. We always got the spicy quartz which came with chashu pork. This most recent visit however we ordered our usual and when we received our food we noticed it had chicken in it. I flagged down the server and she told us the menu had changed and they no longer serve pork chashu with this ramen. Very odd.
The server was kind enough to offer to bring us some chashu pork to make up for the mixup, which was appreciated. But looking at the menu, it now says the quartz comes with “chicken chashu”, which in reality is apparently just 2 small slices of boiled chicken breast. And apparently they don’t cut the half boiled egg in half anymore? It was weird to see a whole boiled egg in ramen. The cucumber appetizer we ordered had cucumbers cut so thick they were actually difficult to eat.
2 ramens + gyoza 5pc + cucumber salad + 2 beers ran us about $70 plus tip. The food here has never been super amazing, but it at least scratched the ramen itch. Now, I’m not so sure it scratches that itch for us. There has been a notable drop in food quality since the last time we were there.
However, the service has improved significantly since our last time. Servers were attentive, quick, and friendly.
Anyway, if you’ve been here before and know what you like to order take a closer look at the menu to make sure it hasn’t changed something significant like replaced chashu pork with bland, boiled...
Read moreThey want you to check in with their QR code at the door then they disregard the wait list and take walk ins that come in after you. I checked in for a party of 8 and it was pretty busy. A few minutes later the server sat a walk in party of 4 at the only table for 8. They have many other tables for smaller parties. When I said "excuse me, we checked in a bit ago for a party of 8 and i just want to make sure we are not being skipped, im not sure if they are walk-ins, I just wanted to double check" She said she would check then returned and said "Just to let you know we have a cut off time on when we take parties" I was like ?? she didn't say what the cut off time was. there were other people still checking in at the qr code, and we had already been waiting. When I asked "isn't the whole point to check in on the code? We were skipped" She just said "yeah. I just didn't see the list." with a blank stare. It would have been great to try the food but it didn't feel like she wanted to serve us so we didn't get the chance. When we left there were parties of 4, 6, etc being sat. Why have a stand in the center of the entrance for people to check in if you are not going to honor it. If there is a cut off time why not add it to the sign? I get it they were busy, busy area, etc but I didn't much appreciate such a poor and unwarranted interaction. We just waned some soup and the...
