You owe it to yourself to give this place a try. If you get Thai cravings Panvimarn will likely become your go-to cure. Let's start with a huge bonus; a large paring lot! Parking can be an issue in this neighborhood. I know of many awesome eateries in the general area that I just avoid unless I'm walking or on a board. Not an issue here. As a bonus, there is a nice car wash across the street. Just drop your car and grab a lunch special. Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. they have several options starting at about $9 through $12. Several options are available and all include steamed rice or natural Brown rice and a mixed spring salad. If you're running a little late, no worries, they have you covered with a daily happy hour. Now on to the restaurant. The vibe is good. The decor gives a very authentic feel. Well appointed accents, comfortable lighting , and a seating option for all occasions. The front outdoor patio is spacious and, despite being at a busier intersection, you don't hear traffic thanks to a tastefully designed waterfall feature. Inside there are some semi-private tables, a private dining room set up for 10, plenty of comfortable bar seats with backs, and of course the standard seating which proved to be quite comfortable. The bar has a very sleek and clean set up. While they do not have a full bar, they make excellent use of rice wine to make cocktails. Beer selection is decent. There are four beers on tap and further craft options in bottles. Wine selection is a little deeper than would be expected and the prices are reasonable. The food: I tried the Tom Kha Gai and their signature Moneybag. The portion was quite large; the bowl is definitely a meal. Flavors were excellent . The spice was present but not overwhelming as can often be the case. The coconut based soup was one of the best I've had. Moneybags are freshly chopped chicken breast meat and Tiger shrimp wrapped in wonton skin. The presentation is picture worthy. They truly look just like little money bags which they pair with a slightly sweet and spicy dipping sauce. You won't be disappointed. As a bonus to some and the detriment of others, there are multiple large screen TVs. Hey, if the special dinner happens to be poorly planned during Sunday football, not all is lost, just ask to turn it on.
Put this on your list. I'll be back to work my way through the...
Read moreIf I could give them 0 stars I would, after the experience we had. We made reservations at the Panvimarn located on Carson st. were we met another couple for dinner. We did get seated right away, but after that everything went down hill. We finally placed our order and during that time we had to ask several employees for refills on our drinks mind you after flagging someone down they only brought us one of the two drinks we ordered so of course needed to flag down someone else and let them know. Finally got our drinks. We order 7dishes we only received 3 expecting to receive the other 4 dishes . Our waitress was no where to be found. She came only twice to check on us once to see if we needed anything and that was when we said the rest of our food would be nice and 45 minutes later nothing no waitress still no food our other plates were cold now . We got to talking with our friends not realizing that it had been so long. Finally the waitress came over to ask if we were done mind you we had been there for 1hour and 45 minutes that’s when we explained we have been waiting for the rest of our food , her have turned white she quickly looked up our order and then realized that we were missing the rest of our dinner. We then asked to speak with a manager. Her reason why was the runners that bring the food brought them to another table. Our bill came to 90.00 with the drinks and only the 3 dishes. They only gave us 10.00 off our order and we never received the rest of our dinner. We were very disappointed in the service and how the manager did nothing to accommodate us for...
Read moreAh-Ha! You guys got close. I put this as 4.5 stars. I think in the future, I could put this at 5 stars. The thing I really like about this place is The Feel. It's in a normal looking neighborhood, but it was fairly classy inside.
The service was quick, and the prices were friendly. Everyone could get along with those prices, and that's considering the fact that I'm not from around the area, and this is California. I mean, I feel as though I should be paying the state for the oxygen that I'm breathing and paying a fine on burping, as I would be polluting the air.
Another thing that makes me like this place was that the other diners were friendly. This couple sitting next to us were asking about the sake that we were drinking. And in the end, they were giving us recommendations on some new dishes to try.
This one was the Soul Fish. Maybe I was buzzed, but maybe because I was visiting and it would be years be awhile before I would have a chance to go back to the area, but I asked that man if I could try a piece of it, and he gave me a substantial piece, about the size of an Oreo cookie.
I would definitely come back to this...
