Ubuntu Café — Restaurant in Long Beach

This is a hidden gem in Long Beach. We live just a few blocks away and haven’t had a chance to visit this place until today. We called to make a reservation earlier in the week and turned out they only take reservation for dinner. We had a friend visiting from out of town and decided to take the chance after being informed that the wait on Saturdays for brunch time (around 12:30) was of 10 minutes. When we arrived to this beautiful and bright restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly bartender who informed us to order upstairs and get back to him for adult beverages! We waited in line for about 10 minutes which gave us a chance to spot some great plates on people’s table. When it was time to order, we were again welcomed by the cashier, Dani, who we learned latter is also one of the owners. She was very friendly and helped us with our order. It was a surprise to learn the restaurant has a lot of Brazilian influence! Dani and Filipe, husband and wife, are the owners, they are both Brazilians and have a lot of experience in the restaurant industry. The servers were also extremely helpful and friendly. The food came quick and it was delicious! I had their chicken sandwich, my husband had their combo of ribs tacos and our friend enjoyed the vegan sandwich. We had cocktails and they have also a great selection of beers. We top it off with a Nutella croissant for dessert and got the chance to learn more about the owners and the restaurant as Dani, one of the owners, stopped by our table. She explained the meaning of the word Ubuntu “I’m because you are” and demonstrated a strong connection with Long Beach and empowering the community. I visited their bathroom once and was delighted by how clean the space was. The succulent garden and natural flowers on the table give the environment a rustic and natural look. They also have a refreshing water fountain that offers a pleasant experience when eating and listening to the sound of water. We were delighted to also hear a great selection of Brazilian music through our visit to Ubuntu. When we were leaving we were acknowledged again by the staff and one of the server promptly offer to take a photo of us and also gave us Dani’s business card where we read “Director of Great People & Owner”. This spot is definitely deserving of its rating! This place is the epitome of what a restaurant should be at this point and it’s not one of those super overpriced places!!!

Located in a very quiet neighborhood of Long Beach, this place is a design gem with beautiful outside fountain, remodeled patio, modern colors and very esthetic to look at. There is plenty of parking for those busy days. You, then, climb these large wide stairs to get up to the patio before being greeted by friendly faces (even though behind masks). At the bottom of the stairs, there is a mini bar that takes your drinks ahead of time and gets them ready for you to consume while you wait so you can get the party started early 👍

What got me was the customer service! Top notch!! I just recently got surgery and one of the waiters noticed that and actually said we could go ahead and find a table first since he noticed that I was kind of struggling with my crutches standing on the stairs.

For the food, we ended up trying their Brazilian Cheese Bread as an appetizers! So delicious. Crunchy bread texture on the outside, soft and gooey cheesy inner bread. I’m not a cheese person but this was worth it!

We also ordered the Lobster omelet! Soft and perfectly cooked egg with lots of lobster meat on the inside. Flavor wise, the inner cream blended everything super well together!

The mascarpone Tangy toast was also another items we ordered to share. Beautiful presentation, definitely taste the tangy but it’s not actually bad as all of the flavors balance each other out really well.

The next item was the Breakfast sandwich, was good. Good taste to it. We asked the chef to make it less runny as which they tried to accommodate.

For the millionaire’s bacon, it was actually a long slab of pork that got crisped on the outside and completely caramelized. It wasn’t as crunchy as I was expecting but did have some good flavor to it as well.

Overall, I have to say that everything adds up to their well deserved 5/5 stars rating. You get everything, so we’ll thought out from the parking lot, to the beautiful design, amazing service, great food that is nice looking and delicious to taste. You have to give this place a try! Highly...
