TLDR reasonable prices, food is just ok
Got a vermicelli laksa (in hindsight, the egg noodle laksa was probably a better bet), the fruit tea which was highly recommended and an order of the popular roti prata. The laksa was marginally below average, it lacked the flavor, spice, and sourness that makes southeast asian cuisine really strong in my opinion. It really could have been a lot more strong and spicy, but i understand why they might not want to do that. Also, really unsure why it had corn in it. The fruit tea tasted marginally better but more or less the same as your average tea shop fruit tea. The lime was a nice addition but could have been more prominent. The roti prata was quite disappointing for me since it was listed on the website as their most popular item. However, it was quite poor in my opinion. The lovely charred outer crust was promising, but the inside of my roti were still quite moist, doughy, not quite hot, and had the raw taste of butter which hints towards being undercooked, rather than being nice, crispy, flaky, etc. I'm not an expert in Indonesian cuisine, so maybe its meant to be that way, but I looked at it through the lens of what I expect out of a good scallion pancake, which I ate frequently growing up (and the two food items seemed almost identical anyway). The prices were decently high but still reasonable, my total for an entree, appetizer and a drink came to about $30 which is more than what I expected. I got a few bites of my friends order which was a mix of rice and barbecue meats. The rice was nice, maybe a little overcooked, but the meats, while decent in flavor, were quite dry, especially the pork. Also, when I sat down at a table, there were still remnants of the previous patron's meal, including a rogue bean sprout and some spilled sauce. Not the biggest deal in my book but worth noting. Sorry in advance for putting this out there but almost as soon as I walked out of the restaurant my stomach became quite upset with me. I had fasted for about 20 hours before this meal so it's pretty doubtful that something else was causing this. Worth noting. Overall, I'd say I'm pretty disappointed with this establishment. I'd probably give it a 1-2 star rating, but the server girl was...
Read moreOh My Heavens!! I was so excited to find Uncle Fung Borneo. I spent 6 weeks in Malaysia on a temporary work assignment in 1998 and have missed Malaysian food so much. But now it's nearby!!! It's an incredible cuisine because it's made up of Malay, Chinese, and Indian dishes with a Malaysian twist- with a little heat from the Malay side, rice & noodles from the Chinese impact, and the delicious Roti dough from the Indian influence.
I ordered Roti Prata (also known as Roti Canai), which I ate almost every day I spent in Penang. Be sure to get the 2 piece option, because their Roti dipped in their delicious sauce is so, so good! I also had the Malaysian Fried Rice (or Nasi Goreng) which was just as I remembered. Yum. Their Laksa Mee was super!! The handmade noodles, lightly spicy broth, and luscious flavors make up one of my all-time favorite soups! The Char Kway Teow, made with flat rice noodles and stir fried with unique Malaysian flavors, was also really tasty! Lastly, I had the Chrysanthemum Tea. It's an iced, floral tea that is calming and cooling. Lovely! I'm so happy and I'm going to go back often. Num!!!
Picked up dinner again tonight (1 month later). Same items, same deliciousness!! GO, if you haven't been. So, so good and authentic!

I ordered the Fried Penyet plate today on grubhub. I ordered in advance for pickup to not have to wait upon arrival. The food was ready on time but when I arrived and mentioned I was there for pickup that is when there was an issue. There were two female workers at the register. One of the ladies did not speak English well and kept asking for my name. I told her my name twice and mentioned I ordered on grubhub. I also had my phone which I showed upon arrival. They just stood there looking blankly like they did not understand. The name was not listed on grubhub but that is a grubhub error not mine. Maybe they should see if they can call grubhub to ensure orders to their restaurant post the customer's name. The whole situation was awkward so I told the lady that I'd probably not order online again and order in person should I return. Be advised to do the same to not have issues at the restaurant. Given I paid in advance this should have been a smooth experience. Restaurant to work on their customer...
