My husband likes going here for the milkshakes, but every time we go here for anything else, we are upset with our experience. I only started trying culver's a couple of months ago because they are near my work, but I'm disappointed over and over again. To start with the food is way over priced for what is being offered. It's not any higher quality or any better tasting than Wendy's. The only nice thing is that they have a different selection of foods. But, we can't even get something as basic because the order is always messed up somehow. The most recent time I went I paid $13 for a small chili, (Wendy's chilli tastes better) a small chicken sandwich (every fastfood restaurant has a better chicken sandwich than what they gave me. The meat was a strange consistency and didn't have any special flavor to explain the high price.) and a 20 oz soda. I asked for no veggies on the sandwich and they put them on anyway and I didn't get ice in my soda, but there was no explanation. My husband ordered a milkshake and I got one scoop of chocolate ice cream. Our total order was over $30 and we didn't get very much food at all. There was practically no customer service. The employee at the window asked us if all we had was the soda and my husband was confused and said, some food & desserts. And, the kid said "besides that?" And, then he parked us to wait for our order which is stupid in my opinion, basically, it's their excuse to take a really long time to make each order. So they are constantly backed up in the drive thru, but rather than getting faster or more efficient in their kitchen they just make everyone park for 20 minutes. The girl who brought the order out was friendly, but that doesn't make up for the overall disappointment. I don't ever want to go back! I have a similar experience every time I go. The food just isn't worth the price the time commitment or...
Read moreAs far as Culver's go I would say this one is pretty narrow down the middle of average to what I would expect and assume I would get from a Culvers. The staff is usually pretty nice and patient when you're making the ultimate customized order, and I haven't run into any issues with the staff.
The food is pretty much the average thing here, which isn't to say that its bad its just not as good as it can be. I have had better food from Culver's in both preparation and quality of food. Quite often if not every time the cheese curds are luke warm and not really hot and melty as I have had before, and the burgers seem like they are using what I want to call abused toppings including the buns. Like they are all smashed and flat with no life left in the buns and the lettuce and tomatoes clearly have been sitting out for a while having lost their firmness. Biting into a burger I expect to see the sauce dripping out (ketchup, ranch, etc.) not tomato water from old tomatoes. Makes everything even more soggy and just not really enjoyable.
That all being said, Culver's as a whole has really amazing frozen custard to which I have never had bad from this location. Its always pretty perfect and rich in flavor. The cheese curds barring them being cold are also really fantastic and easy to take come and make scalding hot and gooey should you wish it. For the burgers the trick I have discovered is to just avoid going inside and get a burger with no lettuce or tomatoes and just take it home to add your own, once you do that with a little self doctoring the burgers are pretty great (the meat, cheese, and seasonings are really...
Read moreTo put this review in context I put Culver's in the category of "Proudly regionally burger joint, started and specialize in one region of the country" restaurants in this category may be encountered outside of that region but can tell where they hail from just by walking in there, Culver's is kind of a poster child of this restaurant type because they scream where they came from louder than most.
So....Look, in terms of regional chains, Culver's lags a bit behind Spangles (Kansas) and Braums (Oklahoma and a bit beyond), but that bar is so high that even though I gave these guys a 4 star rating, in almost any other category of restaurants this is a five star establishment.
Their ice cream ( I am supposed to call it yogurt or something) is delicious, they have an in-house root beer that is better than any of the major root beer brands, their butter burgers are really delicious, their spicy chicken sandwich is better than wendys, their fries are a nice fat crinkle cut that never were served cold and stale, their cheese curds are delicious .and their staff is always very friendly.
That's what I mean, in almost any restaurant category, these guys hit top marks consistently, they just operate in a brutal category that includes: Whataburger, White Castle, Spangles, Braums, Nu-Wa, Blakes Lotta burger, Dog and Shake, Tuckers Onion Burgers, Freddie's Frozen Custard, .....Great place, brutal category to play in of you want to...
