I didn't plan on originally going here, but after my wife and I drove past, we thought we would give it a go. There were tons of people seated outside on a warm day. That's a good sign to me; people willing to sweat it outside for a chance to get some food.
Once inside, we were quickly seated in what I would soon call the "family" section (2 tables with benches on the right, just as you walk in). The bench seats and the floor were littered with taco remnants. Not a big deal, it's a busy place and taco's are generally messy. To our right, there was a small family of 4 (2 kids, 1 mobile, the other not) , enjoying their food and window seat. To my left, there was a small "wall" that separated our area from the rest of the bar height tables further inside. "Family section".
The service started off well. The waiter, Zach, dropped off waters and took our drink order within 5 min of seating. Within another 5-7 min, our drinks were delivered and we put our order in for the chips and queso. We enjoyed our beer and less than 5 min later, our appetizer arrived. Best queso I've tasted in a while. The chips were homemade, and really too thick for me. I prefer the Cantina style - thin and salty.
After enjoying some of the appetizer, we pushed it aside and waited for Zach to take the rest of our order. We didn't have to wait terribly long to put the order in, but the wait for the taco's seemed far too long. Our beers were drained, water glasses super low and zero contact from the wait staff for the next 15 min.
Taco's arrived! 5 different kinds (crab cake, jalepeno, carnitas, carne asada, chicken tinga) and all super delicious. ZERO complaints about the food. Top notch all the way. You can tell this place cares about what comes out of their kitchen. The only issue was the missing food. My Wife ordered a side of Spanish rice and that didn't find its way to our table until we were paying the bill.
Zach, our waiter, started off well, but really dropped the ball in the end. ZERO follow-up. We were never offered more drinks (we were in few a couple more beers) and didn't see the guy again and until the bill came. No water refills until we asked repeatedly and only then finally refilled after the bill was dropped off. Are you kidding me? This is waiting 101. No apologies for missing the rice or having to ask for more water.
I can't help but wonder if it's because of where we were sat, but as I think about it, there was wait staff going in and out the door to service customers seated outside.
Give this place a try, but try not to get seated in the...
Read moreI used to like Jefes a lot but quality and service has really gone down hill. Recently we went there for Taco Tuesday and they didn’t have any of the vegetarian tacos available for the $1 off street tacos deal which makes no sense at all. Vegetables cost less per pound than meat!
The vegetarian option they did have you have to ask about and its either black beans or avocado. When those arrived, they were the saddest tacos I have ever seen! It was literally a tiny scoop of black beans and the avocado one was two tiny slivers of avocado and they wanted $3 a piece WTF?! The other tacos that I ordered they do not offer a discount on came out on the same tiny tortillas that the street tacos came on. They were so tiny, sad and overpriced! I can understand not offering a discount on the fish tacos but why not the vegetarian ones!? Additionally if you want to say they aren’t street tacos and don’t qualify for the discount at least put them on real sized tortillas with portions large enough to make them worth $3.50 a piece! You could not even differentiate the regular tacos from the street tacos!
Jefes used to serve regular sized tacos but they are getting smaller and smaller. We spent almost $50 for 2 adults and a child and didn’t even have drinks or appetizers! We were still hungry when we left and felt totally unsatisfied. We won’t be going back unless they make some changes! I am really sad about it because they used to be good and I want to support local businesses but those tacos were so small and overpriced it’s insulting!
To top it off our waiter was rude to us the whole time. I totally understand he didn’t set the prices or make the rules but I am allowed to ask questions about the menu?! I was not rude to the waiter but I got the feeling the questions I asked he must get a lot and was tired of having to...
Read moreThe first time we went to Jefe's it was in 2023, our 19th wedding anniversary, and it was great! We had an assortment of tacos that were really good and everything was priced great also. We decided to return last night to celebrate my sister in law and a very good friends' Engagement. I figured that would be a good little taco spot to celebrate and we loved the vibe they had the last time we were there. They had 90's Rap and yummy tacos! The bartender was awesome! He suggested a really good tequila and the orange slices with the cinnamon agave glaze he suggested complimented it perfectly! Our server on the other hand though, was extremely rude. We don't go out often and when we had to deal with bad service, it basically solidified our reason for staying in and saving our money. It was not very loud in the restaurant and I literally had to yell my order out to him because he was trying to say he couldn't hear me. He had an attitude problem from the moment he walked up to our table. The atmosphere was good but homeboy kinda left a bad taste in our mouth! It felt like he didn't want to help with explaining the questions we had about the menu. He still managed to get my order wrong and when I told him it was wrong, he got visibly irritated that he had to correct it. His whole vibe was screaming that he didn't want to wait on our table. I've worked in the food industry as a server and on my worst day, you would think it was my best day! How you treat people matters!! A smile also goes a long way!! We ate the tacos had a couple of drinks and left right away. He killed the atmosphere and we most likely won't return or recommend it to...
